Set sail for a roller coaster read!
I actually read this book many years ago, and to be fair I couldn't quite remember it! But having since read it again makes me realise how much I enjoy books by James Patterson. He is very good at pulling you in and being right there with the characters, and this one was no exception. You have the charming suave Peter Carlyle, Katherine Dunne heart surgeon and her 3 kids Carrie, Mark and Ernie; also the rugged good looking brother in law Jake. Mix it altogether and you get a good read. What I like about the novel is the way he writes it from Katherine's point of view. He also writes very short chapters which I like as it makes it virtually impossible to put down! I haven't read a James Patterson book that I don't like. He is a very good story teller, and I would definitely recommend this one!

Mr P does it again
Brilliant thriller. Mr Patterson had me hooked again, Had to keep going till the last word. A dysfunctional family goes on a trip to reconnect after the loss of their father causes them to slowly fall apart. Newly married Katherine does not want to leave her new husband behind but he has an important trial coming up but she fears for her families future happiness if radical changes are not made. For too long she has put her work first her children need this hell she needs this. Enlisting the help of her brother in law they set sail not realising the challenges ahead will eventually unite them against an unseen enemy. Who will make it and who will become the killers next victim? The saying "the family that unites and sticks together stays together" comes to mind but there is always someone that makes the ultimate sacrifice. Katherine has been hiding a secret for a long time, its time for that secret to be told.Typical family mayhem, its the type of holiday I'd have if it can go wrong it would! Brilliant just brilliant

Badly written but entertaining nevertheless
This is the first book I have read by James Patterson, and I had high expectations. After all, he's so hugely successful that posters advertising his books are plastered all over the underground. So I was somewhat shocked to discover that he has the writing ability and style of a fourteen-year-old girl, complete with every possible cliché, characters stereotyped to the point of caricature, and breathy exclamation marks! As I closed the book I found myself looking at it askance asking, "Seriously?"Having said all that, I quite enjoyed it. It kept me guessing, it moved along quickly, and it was easy to read. And it left me with the comfortable knowledge that I can write better than James Patterson, and thus posters advertising my books should shortly be adorning Liverpool Street station.

sail
This story, with its many different layers and one disaster occuring after the next is riviting. The idea that so much could go wrong on one family vacation trip makes me feel bad for complaining about all the excursions my parents lugged us on as kids. They had nothing on this trip from hell. And then to come out of everything to discover that someone you loved and trusted set you up to die is infuriating...and they get away with it...sort of. The end had me gloating that the bad guys did not win in the end. My only beef with the story is that once the uncle died he was almost forgotten except for a mention here or there. And he was a pretty intregal part of the story. But other than that it was a really entertaining tale and a fabulous book to have read to me with two very distinct narrators

A life on the ocean wave!!!!!
This was a good story. I am sorry about ;Uncle Jake', I was hoping Katherine and him would re-connect, but, alas it was not to be. At least there was a positive side to their big adventure, the children really grew up and took charge of their lives. I couldn't put this book down. I was surprised at the negative criticism this book received, but, hey-ho, each to his own I say. I liked it anyway.
