Luna Tech, LTK9702, 8.8In. Brous Folding Knife, Liner Lock, D2 Steel Blade, Grain Oriented 3D Machined G10 Handle, Imbedded Skeleton Liners for EDC & Tactical

I bought this knife because the price was right. I'm an engineer that's been designing industrial cutting and forming tools for many years. So, I have some familiarity with tool steels. I don't have any facilities for testing that this blade's steel is actually D2, so we'll take their word for it. Hardness is ~61 Rc, which is fine. D2 isn't the toughest tool steel, and it will be a bit brittle at this hardness. Probably not that big of deal, just don't do any wild prying. The factory edge is sharp, which is great because D2 can be a bit tough to grind/sharpen. Inspection with the microscope reveals a pretty consistent edge. However, there is a very tiny nick on the edge. Under magnification, it appears to be part of a larger defect. In my semi-educated opinion, it looks like an area with large carbide formations. This is to expected from this steel. So, not a big deal but a bit annoying. I think the quality of this blade is great for the price.The balance of the knife is well-done. The handle is about the right size for a large-size male hand. The stainless liner is rough around the edges. If this thing had cost $100, that would be a complaint. But at this price, it's okay. All-in-all, well worth the price.

"Luna tech knives are built for the Alpha in you..." If you say so. Personally I stopped worrying about my alpha a long, long time ago. Even back then I knew that alpha was an attitude, not something dependent on which brand of tools you bought. Now this knife seems solid and well built. The blade locks firmly in place and it doesn't seem like it will slip accidentally on you. For a knife person this might well be a good buy. For me though, not a knife person, just someone who wants a sharp blade available when such a tool is needed around the house, this folding knife is more problematic. It took me a bit to get it open and even longer to figure out how to close it. Opening it is hard. To close it I have to push a metal strip inside the handle where the blade folds into it. When I push that strip, the blade releases with a little jump and it starts to close. So far it hasn't closed on my fingers and it likely won't but that thought is there every time I push that locking strip back. That makes me really hesitant about using this blade.There are "instructions" but they are in such tiny print that I almost need a magnifying glass to read them. All they say though is that the knife is sharp, that you shouldn't run with it or use it while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The "instructions" do refer you to a website they suggest you visit before using the knife. The website is a generic one though that offers tips on safe handling of sharp blades but no specific instructions on this particular knife.I'm give this knife three stars for a reason. If you are experienced working with blades, it may be a good choice, probably deserving four or even five stars. For an inexperienced user like me who just wants something for opening boxes and other cutting chores around the house, this knife is overkill, worth more like a two or even one star rating. So I'm putting it as a neutral three stars as folks will have to decide for themselves if this is a good product for what they need or not.

I am also smitten by the high caliber of its designs, components, assemblies and quality controls. The five (5) indential knives I ordered arrived flawless. Each is a keeper and candidate for custom handle scales if I ever become bored of the already excellent G10 stocks. In tradition of KISS this flipper renders moot fads such as thumb stubs and assisted opening like Kershaws "Speed Safe" mechanism which incorporates a torsion bar.Note: 5-star value refers to my purchase price of eighteen (18) US$ .

When you drop or jar this this knife, it may pop open due to the blade release tab protruding from the top edge of the body (see pic.) It does not have a locking blade and this design flaw makes it an unacceptable safety hazard. I’m keeping this knife to whittle my walking sticks, and I’ll throw it in my emergency kit, but it’s not a knife for backcountry or hunting use.
