VAUDE Men's Kabru Hooded Jacket III Jacket

When I opened the box the jacket was higher quality that I expected, very nice workmanship and it looks durable. But there was less loft than I expected, the jacket is a bit puffed-up in the stock photo. This is not an expedition-thickness down for -20 degrees F. It's more of an ultra-light, compact midlayer. It's still nice & warm under a shell, it packs down very small for carrying as an extra layer or "emergency insurance" in your pack. The down panels are cleverly designed to spread the down in a uniform layer - an improvement over the typical scalloped style puffies. Nice smooth zipper action and 100% PFAS-free according to Vaude.A couple of weird fit issues - the sleeves have good length, over the wrists, however the sleeves are tight, particularly in the forearm. Without extra layers it gives a cold feeling in the arms and hands. Also, the hood is very small - does not fit over a wool hat. I recommend this jacket but order 2 sizes up from your regular size - I got XL and wish I had XXL. If you're over 6 feet get XXL. The body fits trim to the belly so a larger size won't be overly bulky and will give you more body length and room in the arms & hood.
