wow
This beast is hand made. Thick, stable, and sturdy. Nice welds and hole for drainage looks hand torched (adds character, not being "laser" cut). 30" was plenty big enough for 6-8 adults to sit around and keep warm on a 42 degree Michigan Fall evening. I was concerned that airflow under the wood without a grate or something on the bottom would be an issue, but it wasn't. I have never been great about cleaning out, covering, or storing my sub $100 fire pits in the past, so they always rust out and I am forces to purchase a new one every couple years. This will not be the case anymore. This thing will last decades and save me money in the long run. Added bonus, give a good tap the side of this pit (when it is empty) with your metal fire poker and you got a dinner bell that will rival your local church bell.

5++++ Stars. BUY THIS ONE!
5 stars does not give this product justice. I have seen countless box store fire pits and ZERO have come close to the amount of steel in this pit. I work with steel everyday and these product is legit plate steel that is not going to wear out in the rest of my lifetime. Excited to watch the steel age with the seasons.Update - after two parties, we have received so many conpliments. We are so impressed.

It's heavy. It'll be rusty.
Solid rugged construction. Not a phoo phoo phire pit. Heavy enough not to blow around in the wind. Although I purchased the lid for it also, it does have a really nice drain, in the bottom so it won't collect rainwater.

Solid
It is great for what we wanted. We just wanted a solid (thick) fire bowl for the back outside patio. Most of the fancy fire pit units have very thin metal and I am sure they will wear out (or rust out) sooner than later. It's hard to find just good solid functional things these days. This fits that need. I also like that it is USA made. The shipping box was incredibly basic, but then again, there really is no way to damage this thing in shipping (it's a freaking solid steel bowl welded completely to a smaller solid steel bowl on the bottom). You don't get a lot of heat to the sides unless the wood is stacked up above the rim level, but that's just logical thermodynamics (most of the heat rises). Very pleased.

Wonderfully made.
Absolutely love it. We waffled due to the price and considered a less expensive model--but so glad we went with this one. Simple, beautiful design, kind of an industrial look. Extremely sturdy (in fact, it's not easy to move, takes 2 people, but we kind of rolled it on its rim and that worked ok.) It does develop superficial surface rust but that doesn't bother us- adds to the character. We set it directly on our concrete patio & it did cause a slight rust ring--but our patio is directly under an oak tree so it is stained by leaves and acorns anyhow--we figure rust marks just add a bit more industrial charm. If that freaks you out, put it on pavers. Functions perfectly as far as the fire goes. Shipped quickly & for free. Also love that it's made in the US! Icing on the cake. If you can afford it, go with this one.

Rust exposed within hours
I opened my fire pit that I was so excited to receive.Within hours I had rust along the rim.I chose to purchase this product because of the long term durabilityWhen I contacted Ohio Flame I was told this is a natural patina and will rust over time.The coating is chipping along the rim causing it to rust.Two hours is not over time.I am extremely disappointed.I am hopeful they will stand by their product and take care of this issue or at least explain the pit will rust quickly.I have never written a review but feel if you are considering spending the money on this you should be properly informed of Patina is equivalent to rust.

It is better when you accessorize it
I would give this fire pit a higher rating if it wasn't so basic. I have yet to use it, but probably will tonight.It seems to be of a very sturdy design with nice heavy gauge steel which should last for years unlike the cheap Chinese crap they sell on Amazon and in the stores.By basic, I mean that it has no versatility. No handles, no wheels, and the screen cover they sell for it is over the top expensive. If people want the mobility to use it in different locations in their yard, it is not very well suited for moving around.Here is what I did to overcome that.I bought a 2ft x 2ft piece of half inch plywood, and covered it using screws and high temp glue with a 2 x 2 piece of sheet metal I bought at Home Depot. I painted it with high temp paint rated at 2000 degrees. I drilled a hole through the base of the pit at each of the 4 sides and I clamped it to the plywood heat shield using U bolts through the base holes I drilled. I bought a decent set of wheels at HD and attached them to the plywood base. I bought 2 metal handles and bolted them through holes I drilled on the rim of the pit. I painted the exterior of it with the same high temp paint. I now have a pit that I can easily move by the handles and locate it with ease anywhere in my yard.As for the screen, I bout a 30 inch dome type screen on Amazon. The fit was not precise, but I expected that. I bought a flat piece of metal stock about an inch wide, and cut 2 inch pieces and bent them to 90 degrees and screwed them onto the base rim of the dome and that gave me the footing I need for it to be stable on the pit.Throw in a 22 inch grill grate in the pit and you now have a surface for the wood and an air passage to flow under the fire.

Excellent!
This has to be the best.fire.pit.ever! Solid steel and made in Ohio and even signed by the craftsman that made it.It arrived via carrier truck strapped to pallet (they used a forklift to get it off the truck and into my driveway). After cutting the straps, I rolled it into place (would take 2-3 strong individuals to carry it). We've used it now multiple times and is better than imagined. It also has a venturi effect of sorts where it sucks the air back into the pit as it burns, so the smoke goes straight up and out. Unless it's breezy, you won't be affected by the smoke as much as smaller pits. There's also a hole in the middle to drain water if you want to leave it open. I plugged mine with a stack of small rocks and then I cover it when it rains. Save some time and your back by buying this instead of building one out of stones or something smaller - you'll thank me later!
