A blade good I ordered the 3-knife & board set!
The media could not be loaded. The blade itself is fantastic! Rubber grip feels solid and not slippery even with food grease on my hand. Both the handle and blade clean easily and this has replaced my regular steak knives at home. Yes, it's that much better. As you can see, I like the blade enough to get the better 3 piece set though this is the same as the smaller paring knife. For the knife itself? Zero down sides!Too bad I can't say the same for the included wrap up cutting board. Once it's been curled up long enough to ship it never goes flat again. It's got as much curling tension built in as a spring! Unless you like catching your food this is useless. Alas, as neat as the net that holds them seems to be its equally useless since the board is.Just keep the blade in the original sheath, toss it in with your cooking gear and find a better board or just step up to the 3-blade set with the better board. You won't be disappointed!

Knife is good. Cutting board is a PITA
I purchased this for the knife. The other reviewers are correct, the “cutting board” is almost useless. This is not a good option for real backpacking. I purchased this for use in our lightweight adventure camper. The knife works great for fruit, cheese, and other small tasks. The cutting board has never flattened out. It has a permanent curl even through I store it flat under a griddle in a storage compartment. It is only useful to protect my counter when I am able to hold it down. Most of the time I don’t even bother and I use my regular cutting board or just cut on a plastic plate. If you are looking for a true backpacking knife, just get a Morakniv. They work as a general purpose survival knife and for cooking, cleaning fish, camp chores, etc. No need for a dedicated cooking knife when you are trying to keep you base weight down in a pack.

Mat Doesn't Stay Flat
I loved the the knife! Perfectly sharp, small, light, durable. This is perfect for backpacking and if you need to cut up food.My only issue was the rollable, plastic cutting board.Definitely rollable. It's very difficult to keep it unrolled long enough to use it. I had to weigh it down with different objects to keep it flat. It rolled a number of times and sent food flying.I imagine a good silicone mat might work better. It might add a few more ounces, but your food won't have the added Rocky Mountain spices (dirt, pine needles, etc) that you weren't looking to add to your food.Again, overall, great product. Just hate that the mat doesn't stay flat without a lot of help.

Not truly functional
I think the knife is plenty sharp. The mat is flimsy and easy to roll up. However, it will not lay flat. It's very thin plastic. You either have to hold it down (remember you're cutting so you need two hands) or weigh it down with something heavy. So, I went back on amazon and bought another set of mats, which looked to be sturdier. Hard to roll up but possible. Lays flatter, but not completely flat. Better. So, back to amazon and now I've purchased a laptop sleeve (new mat is 8.5"x11") - I put a mat (flat, no rolling up needed) in there along with the knife. Haven't used yet. And actually ordered a smaller game sleeve (more like 6x8) so I could cut the mat since I really don't need much mat space. We'll see if that's the best. So, all in all, I got a knife with a sheath and that's what I'm keeping from this product.Edit - so I ended up happily with the Dexas Heavy Duty Grippmatt https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01I3ESHUO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1AND the Rainyear 11-11.6 laptop sleeve https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q3PL6WP/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1It all lays flat and most suitcases have a place for putting flat stuff. The knife is still sharp.

DO NOT BUY
This is a complete waste of money and piece of garbage. The cutting board is extremely flimsy (and yes it’s small and lightweight which should make it great for camping) and came rolled up beyond repair. It also comes with a small sack suggesting it should be stored rolled up. However, the material will not “unroll”. It came warped and even after placing under some heavy books, it remains warped. Complete lack of innovation and I expected more from GSI. Extremely disappointed and utter waste of money. The knife seems fine, hence 1 Star.

Very difficult to make it lie flat.
I bought this to take on a 5-day backpacking trip to Isle Royale with my 11yo Grandson and my son-in-law, where we planned to do lower miles and more gourmet cooking to keep the 11yo happy. The cutting board is almost impossible to get to lie flat on its own for use. It just wants to curl back up into a roll. Here's how I fixed it. Unroll the cutting board onto a large cookie sheet that has a 3/4" lip, and pin down each corner with a coffee mug full of hot water so that it stays put. Then fill the cookie sheet with boiling water so that the GSI cutting board is completely submersed. Let sit for an hour. After that, the tendency to curl mostly went away and I packet it in my backpack flat, up against the back panel of the pack. The knife wasn't very sharp. It had difficulty cutting a ripe roma tomato. A Victorinox, Morakniv or Opinel knife would be a much better choice for a camp kitchen cutting tool.

Knife ok, but cutting board will not lay flat.
Was party to some good laughs from my backpacking buddies as I unrolled this and tried to get it to lay flat. Bad design. Never could get it to and when I reversed rolled it, seems like it kind of damaged the material.

Know what you are getting
The image makes this look like a cutting board and a semi-decent knife. In reality this is a useless plastic sheet (useless because it rolls up and doesn't ever lay flat) with a lightweight (but not very durable) knife. If you need an ultralight option for backpacking this is a decent option I guess... other than that, I don't see much use.
