Avedis Zildjian Company I Family HiHat Cymbal Pair (ILH14HP)

Opinions always vary when it comes to cymbals/drums. I found these hats to be dark sounding and peak at 800mhz where as I like hats to have more of a sizzle at 5khz. Now for live application I would think these will cut very well but for recording it lacks luster. Nothing wrong with the product - it came in perfect shape but for recording these hats don’t have much to offer and sit in the same tone as electric guitars. My review comes from 35+ years in studios from around the US. In the final analysis if your looking for a loud live hat then this fits your bill but if your looking for clarity in your recordings I would pass.

Nice hi-hats, but not for me. I like to play with Cool Rods and I guess because the volume is lower the overtones really pop out. My pair had a weird unpleasant tin-like pronounced overtone. It may be my Gibraltar stand, I don't know. More I played more I got frustrated. This relationship was going nowhere and I decided to return them. Again, may be just my particular setup and technique. I do like my ZIldjian 13" S series pair much better for more pleasant and crisper sound, again using Cool and Hot Rods.

The quality of the sound is outstanding, these are Zildlians what more is there to say.
