Turner Classic Movies and Universal Studios Home Entertainment present the newly remastered Audie Murphy Westerns Collection. The most decorated American soldier of World War II, Audie Murphy parlayed his heroic exploits on the battlefield into a successful film career in Hollywood. His handsome, boyish appearance and shy, soft-spoken manner made him an appealing and uniquely different kind of action hero which provided an intriguing contrast to his athletic skill and quiet intensity. SIERRA (1950) Ring Hassard (Audie Murphy) and his father Jeff (Dean Jagger) live in a hidden valley in the mountains where they capture and tame wild horses. When Ring comes to the rescue of Riley Martin (Wanda Hendrix), a woman lawyer who has lost her way on the trail, it leads to a romance between them but also opens an investigation into Jeff's shadowy past and accusations of murder. The Hassards encounter additional trouble from a gang of horse thieves led by Big Matt Ringo (Richard Rober) who steal from them and then plot to kill them before justice is served. Wanda Hendrix, who was married to Audie Murphy at the time, makes a fetching heroine and the film is notable for an early appearance by Tony Curtis in a villainous role and a colorful performance by Burl Ives who performs several Western ballads including "Drift Along" and "Hideaway." DRUMS ACROSS THE RIVER (1954) Driven to desperation by hard times, Frank Walker (Lyle Bettger) and a party of miners decide to dig for goldin Ute Indian country despite a peace treaty that forbids trespassing on their land. Joining the group in spite of his father's warning is Gary Brannon (Audie Murphy), who has no qualms about breaking the treaty since his mother was killed by the tribe. The miners actions soon incur the wrath of the Ute and Gary finds himself caught in the middle of a deadly situation that threatens to erupt into a bloody race war. RIDE CLEAR OF DIABLO (1954) Clay OMara (Audie Murphy) vows to bring justice when his father and brother are murdered by cattle rustlers. What he does not know is that three of the most prominent citizens of Santiago are behind the crime including the town sherrif, Fred Kenyon (Paul Birch). As part of his duplicitous plan to eliminate the remaining OMara heir, Kenyon deputizes Clay and sends him off to capture Whitey Kincade (Dan Duryea), a notorious, trigger-happy outlaw who is suspected of the murders. Instead of killing each other in a shootout, however, Clay and Whitey become worthy adversaries who forge an unlikely alliance in uncovering the truth. RIDE A CROOKED TRAIL (1958) directed by Jessie Hibbs. Murphy stars as a bank robber who asssumes the identity of a famed U.S. marshal in order to avoid capture. When sold by .com, this product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. .com's standard return policy will apply. This product is expected to play back in DVD Video "play only" devices, and may not play in other DVD devices, including recorders and PC drives.

Audie Murphy (4) Four Aces of his Top 10 Movies......
This collection of Audie's movies are in the top 10 of the best westerns Audie Murphy ever made. Universal and (TCM) Turner Classic Movies, did an outstanding effort of releasing these on DVD and all on one collection. This movie collection consists of (4) four individual disks, no skimping here, no double sides. The covers are also quality done. Audio and video are wonderful. Each movie comes with it's own special features with the same format outline including movie posters, stills, PR stills, behind-the-scenes stills both US and UK styles. Bed Mankiewicz of TCM introduces each film as if you were watching each show on the TCM channel. How cool is that? The movies are in color and run on average for approximately 80 minutes each. "Ride Clear of Diablo" and "Sierra" and are Full framed the other two "Drums Across the River" and "Ride A Crooked Trail" are not. Of the (4) movies I prefer Sierra which I consider to be the best *Please see my separate review on Amazon. I would highly recommend this collection, you won't be disappointed!I mentioned earlier that I believe that this collection is part of the top (10) ten movies Audie Murphy ever made. In that list I would include the balance of "No Name on the Bullet", Duel at Silver Creek, Cast a long Shadow, The Quick Gun, Tumbleweed and Gunsmoke. In addition, Audie's TV Series "Whispering Smith is pretty good, but there are some video and audio issues with it although the stories are well written.Hope this helps.Blessings,Phil

Great Audie Murphy Collection
The westerns in this collection are very good.I never saw an Audie Murphy western when I was a kid.My mom talked about his heroic war record alot.I started watching his movies last year.I liked the man and his movies right from the start.Audie Murphy is not a John Wayne type.He is soft spoken with a slim build. He always looks very young. These westerns are a perfect fit for him because he was a country boy in Texas.Audie Murphy is authentic.John Wayne was a fake.Audie Murphy was a real war hero. John Wayne just played war heros in movies.Audie Murphy could shoot a gun and ride horses. John Wayne was the all American cowboy who, in life, hated horses. These movies have good stories.great color and good acting.Watch some Audie Murphy westerns.I think alot of people are missing out.
