I absolutely love this trash can holder
I absolutely love this trash can holder. It is way bigger than my last one. The only complaint is that the trash can that comes with it is way too small for this cabinet. I bought a bigger can and it is a better fit and can hold more trash.

Doesn't require batteries and isn't plastic
My old step-on garbage can was dying and most (if not all) the replacements were battery-operated. Not my cup of tea. This garbage can IS expensive, but I could buy it to match the house's decor. The manufacturer even customized it with hinges I provided. This did add a bit to the delivery date, but that was expected. The finish is not equivalent with that found on fine furniture, but it is appropriate to the rustic style of the box. The design of the the tilt mechanism is clever, works well, and should last for years. My only suggestion for change is to clear-coat the interior where the plastic container is; this will make it easier to clean and prevent tuna juice from penetrating the wood and leaving a permanent aroma.

Not worth what you pay
Just received this today and did the minimal assembly required. It was packaged very well so the problems that I ran across are most likely not due to shipping. So for the minor problem there was a dent in the cabinet front and the wainscoting on the front has a big knot in it that looks a bit unsightly. The side edges of the top is quite rough and could have used a good sanding. The paint job itself is not top quality but that may be due to the roughness (lack of sanding) to the entire product. The cabinet itself isn't close to being square. You can see in my pictures how the bottom left and the top right are totally out of square compared to the bin front. The stopping mechanism has me a bit worried because it relies on the blocks on the inside of the bin and as you can see in the one picture the one screw is either stripped out or not screwed in all the way. I tried screwing back in but didn't have any luck. I will probably buy some eye hooks and some thin chain and make my own stopper. So the concept is good but the workmanship is lacking. If the thing hadn't cost me $300 (for a trash can) I probably wouldn't be so critical. But for that much money I was expecting a better quality piece of furniture.

Some Assembly Required
The unit is solidly built, however the top and tilt-out door are not attached. You will need a Philips screwdriver and a rubber mallet or hammer to pound in the prefinished pegs into the screw holes on the top. The instructions were minimal, but it was easy enough to figure out. The predrilled holes to screw the door to the unit were not square, so the door isn't quite even. This is minor and does not impede the movement of the door. I chose a solid color, which upon closer inspection shows some spots with rougher sanding. I would highly recommend either buying one of the distressed finishes or unfinished so you can do a smoother final sanding before painting or staining. I am happy with the piece overall and I would purchase it again.

About the “negative” remarks:
I love this! It is replacing one that my parents had in their city apartment, and later our suburban home, and finally in my same city apartment and now my suburban home with MY kids. I’m sentimental about a trash can. Oy.It does require a tiny bit of assembly. I wish I could go back and reply to the comments singly. To the guy that said that the knob was installed backwards… LOL you idiot, he shipped it in a rectangular box. If he had put the knob in the correct position it would not have fit. Use some common sense. All you have to do is screw in six hinge screws (which are darker than the six long top screws) and the two short top screws. And of course, switch the handle knob position around. Last call that I have a tip. If you don’t have a rubber mallet, put a beer kuzee around the head of the hammer to tap those wooden plugs in.It comes with a trashcan but I believe I can find a larger one to fit.

Quality, fancy and function
Creamy color matches my cabinets. We bolted to wall after removed baseboard to fit flush. So easy to fill and empty trash not finding messes on wall or floor from sloppy cooks. Easy to leave open when in process of preparing certain jobs. There was small corner of wood inside bottom of food that must have separated due to nail. We glued back. No ones fault just small weak part of wood. The piece was still inside so probably separated with moving in-spite of good packing. Not taking any stars off. We like soo much we got a fancier knob. Excellent quality, looks and idea. We store trash bag liners inside on shelf.

Great customer service
This bin is what I had been looking for, and looks good while hiding the garbage. There was a issue with the original bin, which SawDust City promptly remedied.
