I LOVE this! Yes, it IS better than a stick, for the person who asked....
Ok, so I'm a hack gardener - I'm sure I do most everything wrong, against the ways you're "supposed" to do it, however, living in the California area I'm in it's almost impossible for things to NOT grow, so it can make the most amature gardener seem like a master. I've used a stick, or for lack of a good one my finger, to poke holes for planting seeds, bulbs, beans, etc. for years and years. A few weeks ago after a 5 hour gardening marathon (it was a super sunny spring day after weeks of grey cloudy & rain, so it felt super springy and I couldn't resist!) I'd been using my hands almost the whole day before finding a solid stick that wouldn't break or bend and when I went in to wash up I discovered I'd thoroughly thrashed my cuticles, nails and finger tips. Tons of little cuts, deeply imbedded dirt that took days to get out and lots of rips along my cuticles that felt like a 1000 paper cuts for several days till they healed. I realized there had to be a better way and found this online. I really love it! It's super sturdy - even in the hardest, most clay-like dirt I can push down on it really hard and it's not going to break or slice into my hand like a stick would. I was initially worried about the way that it's thicker as you go up, as I'm not used to that when I make holes for bulbs, but it was fine and actually made it a bit easier to then collapse in the hole and bury the bulb, bean or seed.So all-in-all I love this thing and can emphatically say, "YES, it's better than a stick!!"

a useful tool which I not only would buy again, but have done, when my last disappeared
Very nice for the grandchildren to use when they help in the garden. I marked the depth of the hole to make, with a ring of electrical tape on the dibble, so they could push it in to the blue line, drop in the sunflower seed, and then push in the dirt. (I marked where to expect to find a seedling with a 2” section of 2” white PVC pipe, so that weeding helpers would not accidentally pull them up.) The tight-grained wood makes it easy to clean off our clay soil after using. I haven’t been pricking out seedlings of smaller seeded plants for a while now, but I can see where this tool would be useful for that also.

Not the best choice for my purpose
I wanted to try a dibber for planting garlic, and I was leery of the styles with a handle joint. This looked like something that couldn't go wrong. It worked okay, but it took a lot of wiggling to make big enough holes. Also, the measurements (yes, inches and centimeters) are printed on the sides in a pale brown ink, not engraved. They quickly became lost under dirt stains and moisture. I will be looking for a better solution.

Pretty but not as functional as others
I wanted a wooden tool, but using it to dig in a lot of plants at a time was slow work. Tools with a cross handle did much better. I like the measuring gauge on the tool, and the length is excellent. I will try it for planting seedlings.

Right size and sturdy. The top of the handle could be wider ...
Right size and sturdy. The top of the handle could be wider to work more ergonomically, but it is okay. The real downside is that the depth indicators are only painted on and will wash off soon. I will probably carve some grooves in to have a non-painted visual. Wish they had thought about that upfront and included that.

Exactly what I needed
I wasn't sure if I should buy it. First it's wood so I wasn't sure it would be sturdy enough. It is. Second, the illustration showed metric system measurements which I'm fine with except that most books use the American system. It turned out it also has inches in the back. Wish I had it when I was planting those 300 garlic cloves.

Ok but darker numbers would help
It's great for making holes for bulbs and seeds but the problem is if the ground is wet the dibber gets mucky and you can no longer see the numbers as there quite faint.Would be much better if the numbers were either raised or a lot darker
