Brown = Yes / Black = No
Hi. The BROWN colored pair of Birkenstock Men's Amalfi Leather Soft Footbed Milano Sandals wears beautifully with straps made of soft leather. This 5-star rating is for the BROWN pair of sandals. My rating for the BLACK colored pair of sandals = 1. I purchased two pairs of the BLACK colored pair of sandals from different suppliers through Amazon. Unfortunately, straps on the BLACK Birkenstock Men's Amalfi Leather Soft Footbed Milano Sandals are too hard. If the BLACK colored pair of sandals is made of leather, it is not soft leather. My Podiatrist recommended I wear this specific sandal while my broken toe heals. Unfortunately, straps on the BLACK colored sandal hurt across my toe, arch, and around my ankle. These straps simply do not give. I purchased this same sandal in BROWN, and straps on the BROWN colored sandal are made of soft leather and do not hurt. Even if my toe was not broken, I would return the BLACK colored sandal because, for the price point, I would expect straps to be made of soft leather that does not hurt my feet. In summary, Brown = 5 = Yes. Black = 1 = No.

I don't know how many pairs of Birkenstocks I've had over the years - but these have quickly become my favorite. I've never purchased the soft footbed sandals before ...
Not sure why these say Women's, as the size I bought (46 / US 13) is clearly not a common Women's size. These are a popular unisex style.I don't know how many pairs of Birkenstocks I've had over the years - but these have quickly become my favorite. I've never purchased the soft footbed sandals before - but when new it made a world of difference. As the sandals have become more broken in, I don't think the soft footbed makes a big difference.These are great sandals for walking. I've had a number of styles that do not have a back strap (Arizona, and the Adria) that are comfortable for quick errands or not running around all day as the shoe tends to move around on the foot and can become a little uncomfortable / cause blisters. However - the Milano style with the back strap keeps your foot securely in place and allows for all day comfort when long days of walking are ahead of you.The waxy leather is very durable and looks great after it gets some marks in it. The brown color is neutral and goes with practically everything in my summer wardrobe. Shortly after purchase I sprayed these down with leather protectant and they did not discolor at all.To be frank, these are the best pair of Birkenstocks I've had. The price of entry may be high, but if I get 5 years out of them that's $28 per year, and I can easily see getting 10+ years out of them for about a $14 per year cost of ownership.

Love my birkenstocks!
According to Birkenstock's size chart, I should wear a size 39 for an 8-8.5 size show. However, I found them to be wayyyy too big. So I went down a size to a 38 and they fit perfectly! I have wanted these shoes for years and I finally have them. I love how hard the leather is. It's a rich brown leather that will age beautifully over time. The leather is very stiff so for now I am wearing them with socks, which works out well during the colder winter months. With socks on, the hard leather doesn't bother me at all so by summer they should be soft enough to go without socks. I have very high arches and typically wear inserts inside my tennis shoes. I don't seem to need any kind of insert with these shoes. My arches don't ache at all in these. It's absolute heaven! If you've wanted these for a long time like I did but are unsure because of the cost, take my word for it, they are worth every penny!Also, the shipping information got messed up on my order and that made me nervous. I sent them an email and they responded promptly and courteously! Excellent product and excellent customer service!

Need to be broken in... BIG TIME
The cork soles of these are perfect, they fit my feet perfectly, and they're no different than other Birkenstocks I've worn. The leather uppers are a lot tighter on my feet than I remember. I've been wearing them since April 3, 2017, and the leather uppers still need to be stretched out and broken in. Once I get them on they're comfortable, mostly. After a day of wear the tops of my feet ache, but that's getting better as I stretch out the leather.Ideally I wouldn't notice these sandals on at all, and they'd come off and go on as easy as slippers. Alas, they're not there yet, but I have hope they will get there with continued use!

My size! Exactly as expected
I am a 30 year fan of Birkenstocks and now wear them frequently due to needing more arch support. I've currently got about 8 pair of Birkenstocks and had looked everywhere to find a pair of their black Milanos in leather, size 37, to wear on a long trip abroad, but could only find the Birko-flor imitation leather. Apparently the women's oiled leather Milanos now come only in brown or blue and men's sizes usually start closer to EU 40 so it's been hard to find my size!This Amalfi leather style is shinier than I prefer, but that's ok and I was happy to find my size for a decent price. They have the soft footbed and have been pretty comfortable straight out of the box and won't take long to be broken in well. I am a bit concerned that this slightly shiny leather might get wrinkles near the buckles but can live with that.P.S. People always have trouble figuring out what size to order so I will report that I usually wear a women's US size 7.5 (sometimes a 7.0) and the EU 37 fits me better than 38. I think I have some Boston style winter clogs in a 38 to wear with heavy socks.
