This was a a Christmas gift for my 13 year old nephew. He really loved it. He said "Wow, this is a really nice compass. Can I light something on fire 🔥?!". He tested the flre starter and the paracord end. Both worked nicely. Be assured there was no arson ❌🧯🚒 and he was supervised. He and his dad hunt and the family does many outside activities. He is excited to include this with his gear.Overall, this is a very compact, yet nearly complete kit. Add a few bandaids and alcohol pads to the carrying pouch, and you're all set. Don't forget to put a battery in the flashlight. That little sucker is bright!In my opinion, this should last him many years. It is compact enough to fit into a glove box and takes up very little space in a backpack or utility kit. Now he has no excuse but to survive if ever lost in the woods or in an extreme emergency situation. I'd recommend this handy little kit for anyone, not just teenage boys. The knife is designed for "the smaller hands of a teen boy" but fit my husband's meaty hand just fine too.Great as a gift or for personal use. I bought this for my husband and he loved it. Obviously our little boys do too because they're always asking to see something from the kit and asking how it works. So far we've only used the flashlight when we had a blackout and the light was SUPER bright. We were impressed.
