An inspiring book for people interested in Lord Siva worship suitable for more advanced yoga practitioners expanding in bhakti yoga.

Swami Sivananda gives a comprehensive overview of the symbolism and philosophy associated with Lord Shiva as well as specific prayers, practices and stories of the Great God. Unlike other books that merely retell the myths of Lord Shiva, this body of work is intended to help the reader in his spiritual life through a detailed explanation of the traditional practices of Shiva worship through prayers, stories and the author's lifetime of experience as a monk and scholar of the Ramakrishna Order. The reader is given the spiritual tools to help enhance his practice through meditation, contemplation and mantra repetition. It also bridges the divide between Shiva worship, Vishnu worship, Shakti worship and Vedanta by unifying the differing principles of non duality, duality and qualified non duality as it relates to the temperament of the individual worshiper. So whether you are a Bhakti Yogi, Karma Yogi or Jnana Yogi, or simply interested in knowing about Lord Shiva this is book is must for your reading as well as your library.

Overall i like it. It covers a wide range of information and stories about Lord Shiva.But i feel that it could have been better. For example,Not all Sanskrit sentences are literally translated in english alphabet.And at other instances, there are only sanskrit sentences with no english translation or meaning.The book i received is made of recycled paper(it seems), the price states Rs100 (Indian rupees) but in amazon the price is 3 times higher, excluding the shipping fees.The book i got was printed in India in 2008, is the 11th edition and it has 230 pages instead of the 286 pages stated by Amazon.Really i like the book, its just that the price and description by Amazon may leave you a bit disappointed.But well nothing is perfect in this world. So be positive about it.
