Excellent Brief book from a MOH recipient
Loved the book; learned a LOT from his POV. I loved the simplicity in his explanations, stories and brevity. He didn't delve into overly complex constructs and kept it on point. Refreshing when other like to dig on him for the way he wrote this. For me, I'm so pleased with it, I purchased another one for my father. Loved it.

Remarkable story
I thought this was a remarkable story but not very well written. The book it the story of the early life and short Marine Corp service of the author. Worth the read for sure but I feel the book doesn't really do a good job of bringing the reader along with the story. You don't get much sense of the emotions the come with war. It is more along the lines of, "then I did this, then I did that, then I was here, then I was there". Probably what you would expect from an untrained writer. But this gentleman was a true hero and placed his life on the line for his fellow Marines and deserves respect.

Should be Medal of Honor
The documentation and telling of the heroism justifies the assertion that this is a forgotten hero that might need a re-look for an MoH. Easy to read and follow along this courageous story

The Real Story
It's one of the reasons that it's called "The Greatest Generation". A "real", unsanctified, All American Hero,(before, during and after the war) and a great read. " Semper Fi, Mac! "

A brave marine who gave it his all
It is a very fascinating true story of a World War II marine who sacrificed so much for his country. On February 20, 1945, Jack Lucas jumped on two enemy grenades during the battle of Iwo Jima and saved his fellow comrades from the explosion. Lucas was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for this heroic and godly action in combat. While he recovered from his extensive wounds, Lucas would live the rest of his life with over 200 pieces of shrapnel in his body, including several pieces in his brain and lung and would have to wear hearing aids for the rest of his life.He earned his college degree in business administration in 1956 and became successful in the meat business, though, sadly, his wife attempted to have him murdered so that she could inherit his fortune. Despite his many trials, however, Lucas always came back stronger and this comes through clearly in this book.Jack Lucas was truly a hero and he is one of the best God has given us!
