good plot acting but bad script
once more the Writers show stupidity lack of subject matter rely on special effects to make a movie get a name actor "John Cusack " so people look at it or rent /buy it get stuck with a actor paying rent movie.Maybe I am old school but a movie with good scripts and poor special effects or low budget are less forgiven then movies like this that have career criminals doing stupid stuff a 14 year old teen age would be smart enough not to do .it is not bad bad just poor script writingthe end they state 1.5 million kids are trafficked a year maybe they should look at the USA southern border where 1000's are being used every day to get in because of Liberal politics agendas . Hollywood missed the mark on this one .Also Hatti has real tuff laws since the earth quake and became a problem with HRC as Secretary of state it has become one hardest countries to take children out of another reason the writers did not do their homework

Definitely one to watch
I just don't understand why Ryan Phillippe and John Cusack aren't bigger stars. This movie revolves around a scam called reclaiming, a couple spends tons of money to adopt a foreign child only to pay the money, spend time with the kid and the bad guys take the kid back and keep the money in the dead of night and vanish without a trace. Ryan Phillippe and Rachel Lefevre play just such a couple and are wonderful but I have to admit to being a huge Ryan Phillippe fan. They make the usual movie mistakes but I don't hate them for it, usually I roll my eyes and shake my head. The gang of bad guys, yes, they are BAD. Lead by John Cusack whose slimey, smarmy condescending attitude makes him a very evil guy is terrific. You truly hate him. Suspenseful and not at all a bad movie to sit and devour. Love that Ryan!

The acting was good. I didn't agree with the portrayal of the well-to-do American couple buying a child from Haiti. As was reported by the news it was found that there were "humanitarian" groups operating out of Haiti after the disaster. It was also found that some of the children were taken from their natural parents (without the parents permission) and adopted out to wealthy foreigners for all kinds of purposes excluding those of a sexual nature. It was really a big deal when the facts were disclosed. A better ending for the movie would be that the child was returned to her homeland and placed back into the hands of her parents or a family member who loved her.

It is a great movie. This is what can happen when everything ...
I want to thank the six people that reviewed this movie before I rented it, you are the reason that I did rent it, and you were spot on. It is a great movie. This is what can happen when everything goes right in the making of a movie. Big kudos to the director, the entire production crew and the actors. This movie was so well cast, and the cast was so believable. They just grabbed this film and ran with all their might. This movie starts out pretty quiet, but man, it doesn't stay that way. I love a great thriller, and this one really did have me on the edge of my chair in the end. I did have just a tiny quibble with two things that happened in the end, I would have done them just a little differently, and I feel like the end could have been even more impactful. I'm not a spoiler, so I have to leave it at that.

Writers messed it up. Could have been better (spoiler)
Could of been better. I think the writers did a horrible job when it came to navigating their characters. So female parent swings a poker stick at Cusack, tells child to hide or run, then she runs out the building into the forest, leaving her husband locked in the trunk of a car? You see her run down this path to an abandoned building with Cusack on her tail. Then dramatic music kicks in and she is about to die because she ran up some stairs only to jump down the side of a building and hurt her ankle. It's only a matter of time now. Seriously? How stupid is that? Why even run up the stairs to only come back down? Why not just skip the building and keep on running? Or better yet, lets rewind and knock Cusack out, tie him up and then call police. And then get your husband out of trunk. Just saying.
