It's a great story for children as well as for those who are young at heart and still dream of swimming with a mermaid. The illustrations add to the simple story, highlighting whimsical moments in the story.

This is a cute little mermaid book for your little mermaid. It has cute graphics and easy for young ones to follow along. Definitely been read multiple nights in a row.

Good story, beautiful illustration, multiple good messages, I only wish this was a series! This is a great book for young mermaid lovers! It's a quick read so it's PERFECT for bedtime.

I bought this because I fell in love with the images on tumblr and wanted to support the artist. I have a little girl who loves mermaids so it seemed a good fit. I was curious to see how the images would be made into a story, as the graphics I knew were more slice of life, two kids having fun.The main character is bullied because she believes in mermaids. She finds one and they hang out, until one day the mermaid becomes trapped in trash along the shore. The girl goes back to the same bullying kids to enlist their help freeing the mermaid, and all the kids vow to keep the shore clear of trash from then on. Eventually they grow into adults and bring their kids to meet each other.The adult reunion scene is altered from the original illustration, with the nipple now covered up by the infant mermaid's tail. I personally prefer the original, but can see why it was edited for a children's book. Anyone who might be avoiding the book because they're scared of their child seeing a nipple needn't worry.

Adore this sweet book. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is so sweet. Purchased this after Dad By My Side was such a hit at our house.

A beautifuly written and illustrated book.Such a wonderful story. I was so pleased with this. Loved reading this to my grandchildren.

Obwohl in unserem Haushalt ein kleiner Meerjungfrauen-Fan lebt, habe ich das Buch für mich gekauft.Die Geschichte der Freundschaft zwischen der Meerjungfrau und dem Landmädchen ist in einfachen Worten kurz erzählt. Die Bilder dazu sind wunderschön, klar und voller Aussagekraft. Jedes einzelne Bild geht zu Herzen.Für mich ist das Buch ein Schatz, der einen Sonderplatz im Bücherregal bekommt.

I wanted to love this book and I thought the art was adorable. The two of them meeting in between their own worlds and compromising in order to experience their favorite things "together" was very lovely.I didn't care for the part where she says "I was not a popular girl." The young girl in this book looks like she can't be older than 6 or 7, and I found it to be a weird thing for a girl of that age to think about. And it sounds like the other kids were really mean and ridiculed her for liking mermaids...which is odd? And then later they come and help her to save the mermaid just because she...asks them to.Also, the mermaid stuck in the garbage looks DEAD and it was a little frightening for my kids.Also, the mermaid choosing to leave was a little abrupt.But it ended with a beautiful illustration and the lovely idea that they meet again when they're mothers and have kids of their own, so it was kind of okay, in the end.I'm not sure it's my favorite.
