Not a bad book about the battle if you just want the highlights.

The whole series is excellent

I don't understand this book. It seems too detailed for children, but useless to an adult. Should have looked at # of pages, which I do 99.9% of the time. Need to make it 100%

Very general.

Leipzig was massive, the largest battle before the Great War. A good amount of information is in this book. There are a couple of mis-captioned illustrations but overall a good book.

El libro merece a lo sumo la calificación de PASABLE. No ha cubierto mis expectativas aunque era de esperar dado el formato elegido por la editorial. La batalla más colosal, tanto de las guerras napoleónicas como entre las acaecidas hasta entonces, recibe un tratamiento insuficiente (80 pág.), lo que también se ajusta al formato. El número de láminas uniformológicas y la cartografía no alcanzan en general el nivel de otros títulos. Las demás ilustraciones están bien y las tablas de datos sobre órdenes de batalla son básicas.Lo ideal hubiera sido que "Historie et Collections" hubiese dedicado a la batalla un volumen o dos en la otra serie de gran formato dirigida por F. G. Hourtoulle , como ha hecho con otras. ¡¡En fin, una pena!!

I bought this book after enjoying Gilles Boue's earlier book in this series 'Essling'. This previous book had an excellent translation to English by Alan McKay who brought a good understanding of the 19th century military subject matter to his work. Unfortunately, it seems that his services were not available for 'Leipzig 1813' and instead we have a translation by Elisa Doughty which reads as it could have been done using Google Translate. Frequently this translation is painfully literal illustrating a superficial understanding of the subject to hand. Here are two examples: (pg.22) "these prairies formed a labyrinth of small islands separated by lazy but deep arms" - what is meant are 'branches' or 'channels' not 'arms' which is literally translated from the French 'bras', and pg.62 "the French had 500-600 men out of combat", meaning that they had 500 to 600 casualties, again an awkward, literal rendering of 'hors de combat'. This is a pity because Boue writes very, very well - in French. Additionally, it must be said that both the maps and explanatory drawings are not up to the standard of the 'Essling' volume. I would advise that if you can read French it would be worth having the original edition. Otherwise get Digby Smith's excellent (though unillustrated) account of the battle.

As with the other books in this series, this one looks brand new and did not disappoint. Will continue to buy more each month.
