YokotaDaruma Sashiko Thread Thin 170 M Col.1 White (japan import)

Small on size, big on strength
I discovered Sashiko not too long ago, and after doing some research, decided I'd go ahead and order the proper thread for experimenting and deciding if this was something to add to my personal sewing kit of skills. While some reviews are big on comparing Sashiko thread brands to each other (which is useful for someone other than a total newbie), there wasn't much reference to what I'm more familiar with (DMC embroidery floss being most familiar), so I ordered this white Yokota Daruma 170m skein for just a bit under $7, purely based on price. Price per meter was more affordable for staying under ten dollars than a number of other brands and sites I looked at as potential sources for thread. The description said thin, but I really had no idea what that meant, and ordered blind. The thickness of this thread is comparable to 2-3 strands of DMC embroidery floss. Unlike a 2-strand segment of floss, which I can wrap around my hands and break, I cannot break this thread. It is quite tough against tension. This thread is also has some grip on itself and was an interesting challenge to wind on cardboard bobbins. Since it's not shiny-polished looking like embroidery floss or cotton perle, I'm wondering if, over time, it will sort of "felt" itself into projects for added security, since Sashiko reinforces fabric strength. If you were looking for something locally that was similar without the hassle or expense of ordering online, it is a touch finer than size 10 crochet thread. However, this Sashiko thread is a 4-ply, delicate twist for strength, and the crochet threads I've seen are a little bit "rougher" looking with their 3-ply twist. You could also look into perle cotton, but that is going to be much shinier.Included are a couple of pictures. The two bobbins I wound clinging to each other to demonstrate the thread's ability to grip. The other picture compares Size 10 crochet thread, Yokota Daruma thin Sashiko thread, Three strand of DMC Embroidery floss, and Size 5 DMC Cotton Perle. You can definitely see how shiny the embroidery floss and cotton perle are compared to the other thread types.I'm really looking forward to working with this thread in a project, but wanted to leave some initial thoughts, just in case anyone else was wondering about thread strength and thickness.

Sashiko thread
I was amazed at the strength if this thread. Only down point is it gets tangled. Processing it on a spool would be more desirable for me.
