Grow Your Own Sunchokes!
They grow easily, the flowers are beautiful, and the roots -- well, that's really the point of growing these in the first place!

Not dwarf!
Out of all the places one can get sunchokes to plant, including the grocery store, I got these because it said they are a dwarf variety. NOT TRUE! These grow 6+ feet high and then fall over with a good June thunderstorm. This variety has relatively warty tubers which makes them harder to clean, requiring a good deal of effort with little brush and lots of water. They're quite prolific though and I get nearly a 5 gallon bucket of them from a 5' by 4' patch. The flowers are nice and ornamental. Once in the ground, they spread and the sunchoke patch widens and widens unless you dig out the young plants. You can harvest and pull out what looks like every tuber and they'll return from the little remnants. Oikos tree crops has many varieties and I wish I would have gotten a variety from them that is easier to clean and actually dwarf, because once they're the soil, it doesn't seem like there's any way to swap varieties.

Great quality
Every one sprouted and grew strong. I feel like i paid too much, but i did buy when all online supplies were extremely limited.

Sprouted just fine
I ordered 10, received 12, and all 12 sprouted quickly. Better than I could have expected.

Not even 1 sprouted
This was a disappointment. I received 1 extra (thank you), but not even one of the sunchokes sprouted. So bummed!

Not Dwarf
I double checked and I ordered the Dwarf variety. Mine are now approx 7 feet tall and still no flowers, which means still growing. Taller than the nearby sunflowers. On the bright side, I received a single tuber, which I planted inside in a small pot in fluffy soil mix per instruction. There were 4 starts from it, so I pulled it out, and cut the tuber into 4 pieces around the starts trying not to disturb the new roots and planted all. 3 of the 4 grew and I mean, took off.Updated 11/14/23 - Measured these "dwarfs" at 9 feet++ tall this year (before they fell over) from the ones that self-propagated last year. Happy that they are so easy to grow, but not happy that they are not dwarf.
