Amazingly detailed profile of culture and life among "The Brethren" (and other evangelicals) in a small Scottish fishing village
A sociological/anthropological perspective on evangelical culture and religion in Gamrie (Gardenstown) where much information on the lives of "the Brethren" in that fishing village is provided and analysed in a sympathetic way, yet maintaining academic discipline and objectivity (in so far as such a thing is possible). This work cannot be repeated, communities change with time, and this is as close as a 3D reconstruction of Scottish "fishing village" Brethren culture as we are going to find in the literature. The impact of the EU with its unwelcome fishing quotas and the changing politics of Scotland, will be deeply felt in this locality as time goes on, and the author alludes to this. Does this book make a conservative evangelical feel optimistic? I doubt it. But that is a matter of personal opinion.
