the best convertor. eliminates conversion artifacts
I've converted VHS tapes with cheaper convertors - they introduced video problems from the scanning. this product does not have that problem. Comes with step-by-step conversion software. A little pricy, but you get what you pay for and it works really well.

Digitizing Old VHS Tapes Couldn't Be Easier
I had 43 VHS home movie tapes to convert; it was a PROJECT for sure. The biggest part of the project was reviewing all 43 tapes and building a general index of what was on each of them. The Elgato Video Capture Device was easy to install and the Software was simple to use. The quality of the video/audio is as good as the original VHS recording. The captured video is saved as MP4 file format so it is compatible with most all play back devices. Of course you must have a functioning Video Tape playback device that will connect to the Elgato. The Elgato Software has limited editing capability. In my project I wanted to do a little editing here and there. Windows Movie Maker will edit MP4 files produced by the Elgato but unfortunately Movie Maker will completely recompile the MP4 and in the process doubles the size of the file, and the recompile process takes forever. So I went in search of a Editing Program that would not double the size of the file and I found "Lossless Cut". There's a learning curve to using Lossless Cut but it works well.I have given this Elegato a 5 star rating but if the Elgato Software was upgraded to provide enhanced editing capability it would be Perfect! I don't write reviews very often but I was impress with this little device.

Works as intended.
Works as intended. Not so easy to use out of the box, but after a while, you get used to the software. It's the only one I bought, so I can't compare to any other experience.

Highly recommend!
This little device does an admirable job of making digital copies. It could not be easier to make a digital copy. All you have to do is make all the cable connections from your vcr to your computer, open the software (which must be downloaded), click a few buttons in the application and you are recording. It’s that easy. Highly recommend. There is only one feature I would add to the software. The current software can be set at intervals (10, 20, 30 minutes) to stop recording. Unfortunately when the recording stops the vcr just keeps going.I wish there was a feature that would record an entire tape with the digital clips set at what ever interval desired. I.e. An entire tape could be automatically recorded at desired clip intervals without having to standby and do every thing manually.Still very highly highly highly recommended. Well thought out!!

Core damage
It is working to copy and save but video capture will damage the core isolation. I notice the difference. Comptuer was slow responding

Impressive Results
We are transferring many very old VHS tapes and this device has given excellent results. Good quality output and its versatile as we also have home movie on DVDs and 8mm tapes and it will connect with the other devices as well which we haven't tried quite yet. Very happy with the results so far. Very easy to use. We are glad to be able to keep our treasured memories in our own hands. We are still in progress with the project. but its already more than paid for itself. Highly recommend.

I'm satisfied
Before purchasing, I watched several clips on YouTube for this device. I have no experience with any other capture card so I depended on YouTube. So far the product works as shown on YouTube.

Poor video quality
Did not transfer with the quality that the maker advertised. I experimented with both home video (VHS and Hi8) and professional video. Quality was really poor.

Good quality video from old VHS tapes
I have an older Canopus ADVC110 with IEEE1394 interface, which did NOT work well with Win 7 and not at all with Win10. Any video captured using the ADVC110 turned out poorly with many glitches and picture tearing. Using the suggested updated IEEE1394 driver did not resolve the issue. After reading many reviews, I bought the Elgato USB video capture device and it worked great out of the box at transcribing our old VHS and SVHS tapes to a hard drive. The included software makes it a breeze to start the recording process, then have it stop when the tape ends so you don't have to monitor the conversion process all the time. You can fast forward your tape to see the recorded length in the viewer, then set the stop time. It is easy to trim the start and stop points before you commit to saving the video to your digital storage device. Now the work begins editing all that converted video.

Bon produit
Demande le download d un logiciel avant le premier utilisation. Je conseille de regarder des tutos sur You Tube avant l installation. Apres, très simple à utiliser et la qualité de la vidéo après numérisation est plus que satisfaisante.

Easy to use and good results
With a stack of forty years-old VHS-C cassettes and our hardly-used Panasonic VHS player, we wanted to capture all our recordings digitally. The advent of terabyte SSD has made this much more practicable. The kit was set up in ten minutes and being copied over and converted minutes later on a laptop. The software is easy to use and converts to the commonly used digital format without any problems. Of course, video quality has improved vastly since these tapes were the latest technology but the transfers did not diminish the quality of the original recordings, which is the most one can hope for. It's not cheap equipment but it works reliably and without hassle, so we can see why the design is still being recommended. Just remember that the transfers are in real time, so it does take 90 minutes to transfer a full C-90 cassette. That's old cassettes! It sounds daft to add this, but do remember that you'll need a VHS player to play the tapes so that they can be transferred.

This device needs better compatibility.
The Elgato Video Capture does its job and delivers very good performance when using Elgato its own very limited software. Beside that It’s great for digitizing old videos or capturing content, but nothing more to be said here. However, the major downside is that you can only reach the maximum specifications when using Elgato's own software. When using OBS, you're limited to lower resolutions, which is disappointing if you were expecting flexibility and higher quality.Overall, it works well, but I expected a greater compatibility with other software.
