Brown Girls Coloring Book: Creative Expression, Fashion & Affirmations

This book is a must buy if you believe representation matters! The images are so beautiful and each image offers different hairstyles common for black girls/women. I did see some reviews about the fact that you could not color the their faces or hair which I thought was rather different at first however please still purchase this book. I believe the purpose here was more about giving a visual aid to brown girls without altering complexion. Often mid to darker hues are not brought to life so beautifully as these are and for that reason alone it became a plus for me. My daughter loved that the images not only displayed her hairstyles but also her complexion. Which we find hard to match from a crayon box. Oh yes and the outfits are stylish. Your child will become a fashion designer in an instant. I think that I will buy one for myself! Hope that you enjoy!

This coloring was perspective for my sorority scrapbook! I know that any little Melanite young girl that loves to color would enjoy this coloring book thoroughly!

I love the pictures and the book is cute. I purchased the book for my daughter to color Black girls that look like her, and unfortunately the book doesn’t allow for this. All of the girls in the book are already a chocolate brown hue, and my daughter is much lighter complexion (with light brown hair). My daughter and I have different complexions, and I wanted her to know that she is still beautiful and black, and should be proud..... no matter how light or dark her skin is. I wish the book was left colorless. This way, all kinds of little black girls can represent their own looks, through art. Without trying, I think this book challenges many young girls’ level of blackness or sense of what “black is beautiful” means. That being said, I would gladly purchase the book again if it were a blank slate for the kids to create upon.

The hair and skin is already colored by the manufacturer, with all different hairstyles and skin tones! Not at all like the plain white paper pictures in normal coloring books, where achieving realistic images is next to impossible!A MUST HAVE !

I was disappointed that all the faces were already colored in. It leaves nothing to the imagination.

I was excited that I found a coloring book for my child that look like her. Because it’s hard to find coloring books of an image of her. When I got the coloring book it was beautiful but the only part i didn’t care for is that she doesn’t get a color the hair or skin. You’re basically just coloring their outfits. other than that very high quality paper it is gorgeous and beautiful and amazing don’t get me wrong.my daughter wanted me to write down her opinion of it. So here it goes.ryhianna: I really really love the coloring book. But I just wished I could color the skin and hair. Being black is very beautiful and we all have beautiful different shades of skin. and on top of it I was hoping that I could color some cool colors in the hair because I finally have a coloring book that has curly hair like mine.
