Q: how do i use the weird looking plug so i can power my router up????

You plug it in to a power source like any other electrical device.

Q: 2 questions. 1) as I have an Asus router already, can the router in this set be set as a third node? 2) do the satellites have 2 ports?

Yes to first question. And to second question, the 2 nodes have 2 ports and the main router has 4 ports

Q: Will this product work in Africa?

Its 240/110V with a UK Plug, but RJ45/WIFI would work no issues in Africa.

Q: Can they be setup without using the app? Does it need a Asus account to be setup?

Yes, you can use the web browser User Interface instead. The App is a means of simple set up. It doesn't control all functions. The Web interface or UI, is far more detailed, with functionality not found in the App UI. No, you don't have to set up any kind of account to set them up. Unlike other devices from other brands. The App does allow you to easily control the router by remote access. This can be done with the web interface also, but is more complicated.
