I truly love the treatment Star Wars comics were given by Dark ...
I have been a HUGE Star Wars for the past 20 years. I truly love the treatment Star Wars comics were given by Dark Horse Comics, and was sad when I heard Marvel was taking it back, in lieu of the Disney buyout. Marvel originally had the rights to Star Wars when the Original Trilogy (OT) came out and contineud the series for several years afterwards. Their version of the expanded universe (they created) is mostly forgotten and doesn't receive much fan-fare. In light of the incereible job Dark Horse did, when they took it over, it is no suprise that Marvel Star Wars was forgotten.Based upon their past history with Star Wars, I must admit I was a bit wary to pick this up. I was relieved to discover that my apprehensions were unwarranted. Marvel is making some great Star Wars comics. I wouldn't be suprised that some of the folks at Dark Horse where brought over, when Marvel took over.Well enough history, This seriies focuses on the heroes of the OT ( Luke, Leah, Han, ..etc) just after the events of Episode IV ( A new hope). The rebels are on the run, but still trying to fight back. The story is very engaging, and a lot of fun. I must say, I really like the dramatic tone of the series. Dark Horse liked to tell more dark or mature Star Wars story, and even though I appreciated this, I am glad that this series is geared to a much more broad readership. This series does not "kiddify" the Star Wars Saga, but embodies the fun adventure that makes Star Wars so enjoyable to so many people. The artwork isn't impressionistic at all, but it is still fresh and visually captivating. The story does a good job of staying within the Canon and continuity, but still delivers a creative story line, that is very engaging. This series has made one very significant contribution to the Star Wars canon, but I won't spoil it. On top of all of this, this series is a great stepping in point for those who never read or followed the Dark Horse Star Wars comics.Overall, I am really impressed with this series, and would recommend it to any Star Wars or comics fan. Defnitely pick it up and give it a shot, I don't think it will dissapoint.

Story was weak
What does this story even do for the saga? Nothing; its just a string of nonsensical misadventures. The untrained Luke somehow bests both Darth Vader and Boba Fett...please. This only serves to diminish the characters. The story(s) and dialogue are weak. And by the way, why are there Clone War era tanks? As a life long Star Wars fan I have to say, its difficult to find any quality supplemental material. This falls short. Just another disappointing Star Wars story. I gave it two stars because the art was good.

Star Wars Perfect?
On the cover, there's a blurb that says, "The Perfect Star Wars Comic." It's a quote from ComicBook.com. As I opened the book and started to read, I felt it was true. There's a single page, with, "A Long Time Ago...". Then, a two page, huge, STAR WARS. Then, text, angled like it is scrolling, introducing the tale. Then a starfield. Then a ship flys over, and a part of a planet appears. And, boom, we're in on the action. It's just like watching a new film! The art is great. The banter between Leia and Han is spot on. I can hear Mark Hamill's voice in my head when Luke speaks. Situations are familiar and fresh, all at the same time. It's a fantastic book. It's exactly what I want in a Star Wars book. The universe even grows, the way the universe does with each film, with this book. Instead of, "Wow, there are super star destroyers now. Wow, what are those/ Walkers? Wow, a new character, Lando! Wow, how cool are speederbikes? Wow, Palpatine was from Naboo! Wow, stormtroopers are clones!" And so on. In this book...well, I won't spoil it. You'll just have to read it. But, I'll tell you that....this new information about the Star Wars universe made the news when it was published as a single issue. You want a gripe? OK, I'll give you one. I'm not sure how I feel Darth Vader facing Luke long before their encounter on Bespin, or how I feel about Boba Fett being hired to find Luke long before the bounty hunter went after Solo as the smuggler and Leia escaped Hoth. It feels a bit too "ret-conned" to me, like the prequel movies. But, don't let that hold you back. This is good Star Wars story telling. Action and Adventure in a galaxy far, far away.Good stuff.

A Good Old Star Wars Adventure
Star Wars: Skywalker Strikes is an excellent comic following issues 1-6. It takes place right after a New Hope with the original trilogy characters Han, Luke, and Leia’s fight against the Empire. Right off the back the characters are written true to themselves they’re not different people it’s the same Luke, Leia and Han that we all know in love in this brand new space adventure. Which is why I like this book so much it really is lost episodes of Star Wars. It was great seeing the old band back together and giving their roles in the New Trilogy being subpar reading this is a breath of fresh air. Skywalker Strikes was great! It had good art and writing it didn’t do anything lore changing but it didn’t need to. Skywalker Strike is worth a read! It does the characters right it does star wars right.

A rough start to the canon comics.
Honestly, a mediocre introduction into the new canon world of comics. It has a few shocking revelations, some good some bad. We are introduced to new characters as well. If you’re a fan of Star Wars and want to read the comics, go ahead and get this, buckle up though, it’s a bumpy ride for a while but the StarWara comic line gets better a few volumes down the line.

The flagship title is an excellent extension of the new Star Wars canon
Marvel has put top tier talent on just about every Star Wars relaunch, and it's paying off. The flagship title is an excellent extension of the new Star Wars canon, that nails everything in both tone and style. Characters read exactly how they should, all while exploring untold legends of the Alliance Rebellion, following the events of Episode V. This book is a lot of fun, and an easy recommendation to anyone on a Star Wars kick. It even delivers some meaningful extensions to the canon, that make this more than a popcorn book, and something I truly want to see unfold as much as I do the new movie.

Superb volume!
Great story and characters known for the classic trilogy.Story takes place between New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back and goes paralell with Vader Vol.1 with a bit of cross-over. It's no way confusing but rather fun to read the contact points in these two volumes.I liked the artwork very much, it gives a lot of dramaturgical peak points, so as the textwork is superb.I definitely will get the other volumes following this one, my favourite era of the whole SW universe and as I'm not an obsessed "single issue collector" I'm happy to have the thematically arranged volumes on my shelf.

A Strong Start, With Teething Issues
A very well-told tale following the destruction of the first Death Star. Most of the dialogue is well written, though Threepio's is a touch overdone. I also find it hard to believe that Vader knows the rebel who destroyed the battle station is nearby through the Force, but doesn't figure it could be the guy with the lightsabre. I mean, come on. And there's a bit too much coincidence around Luke and Boba Fett arriving on Tatooine at the same time - what are the odds? And some repetition of things we already saw in the OT that would make those filmic moments less impactful had these events occurred on screen first. Other than those little issues, which aren't as big as they probably seem here, this is great fun, and a good start.

Unexpected treat
I thought this was going to be rubbish compared to the final star wars series that dark horse comics did written by Brian wood , but was pleasantly surprised by it and would recommend it to any star wars fan. Good art and story and they have written the character well .

Doesn’t feel like Star Wars.
Not impressed with this graphic novel, feels forced and cringe sometimes. 1/10
