Fun whimsical romp
Harper always offers a fun magical tale with a slightly overconfident but fallible female who bumbles her way into preexisting messes—and uses wit and sarcasm to get everyone back out. Like always, Saffron is lovable in her quirky optimism and the world Harper has built with an office of godmothers is a fun take. There’s romance, plenty of humor, and the mystery is intriguing and led into a danger I’m eager to learn about in book 2. This is a fun and whimsical read that I plowed through as I always do with a Harper novel, though it took me a week this time—it’s longer than her other books. Scoop this one up, you won’t regret it!

Very Nice Beginning
I wasn’t expecting a lot out of this one—mostly because I’d just finished a supposed trilogy that was one story I had to pay for three times and I was temporarily soured on witches and fairies. I was pleasantly surprised by it however; it has a smart mouthed gutsy heroine. It also had a nicely woven mystery. Be warned though—the “fairy godmothers” come off little better than a middle school clique, and the boss is a jerk. On the plus side, the hero and maybe future love interest is smart and “gets” our heroine right off. Altogether a good read.

I really enjoyed this story
Wishful Thinking (How To Be The Best Damn Faery Godmother In The World (Or Die Trying) #1) by Helen Harper is a smart and sweet fairytale/cozy mystery. Saffron Sawyer is sharp and determined and I simply adore her. Saffron is the best at what she does but wants to become a Faery Godmother. She has the right stuff but not the right pedigree. When she is given the chance to become a Faery Godmother she is determined to be the best damn Faery Godmother in the world (or die trying). Join Saffron as she and the Devil’s Advocate join forces to find the missing and show that just because she wasn’t born with a silver wand doesn’t mean she wasn’t born to do the job. I really enjoyed this story and am really looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Underdeveloped
There’s so much stuff in this stew that made it hard for me to dig into. It’s a struggle to say exactly why I didn’t appreciate it. The premise was interesting. However it unfolds with an erratic string of events that lead to unwise choices, to an unbelievable rescue of bunch of unlikable co-workers. Throw in a romance that barely got started and never mentioned again after the crises point was over even though he was seriously wounded... But wait, there’s more...unnecessary “F” bombs launched here and there didn’t save the day... nor did poor editing. I’ve read other Helen Harper books with enjoyment.

More mystery than glitter in this anti-fairy tale
From dope fairy to fairy godmother, Helen Harper’s twist on godmothers is engaging, creative, funny and free from sap. While a story about fairies, Wishful Thinking is no fairy tale. It’s more underdog ambition and mystery than glitter. The world building with peculiar types of fairies and beige workplaces, the characters and office politics have more depth and resonance than you expect. The plot and mystery keeps you interested. This is by no means an adult book even with the use of drugs in the narrative. The romance is sweet and minimal. Very PG.Four stars for a strong new anti-fairy tale series.

Cute and fun Faerie mystery!
I really liked the plot and characters in this novel! It was fun and pretty quick paced. I would have enjoyed more world building. I have so many questions about the Fae and how/where they live in accordance with the human population! Overall though I did really enjoy it and the banter between the Devils Advocate and the main character Saffron was playful and entertaining.

Entertaining
This was a fun little book for light reading. The main character, Saffron, is a drug faerie who works to keep her clients from moving onto harder drugs and even into rehab. She is suddenly offered her dream job as a Faery Godmother. Parts of the story are cute and some are more grim. There is a lot of the F word in the book so if that upsets you don't read this. The characters are adults but talk like high school teens for the most part.

This is as good as the Slouch Witch. Hilarious and corny. Great story.

Wishful Thinking by Helen Harper a five-star read that you could wish on as it will come true
Wishful Thinking by Helen Harper a five-star read that you could wish on as it will come true. This is the first in a new series and I am sure the rest will be amazing also, as this author always writes amazing faeries, I don’t know but I am afraid to admit Saffron may just be the new fave. From Dope Faery to Faery Godmother, no one else could do better. I loved how there was this whole world of different types of faeries, running around doing their jobs like everyone else, making us see boogeymen and creating rainbows and the like, what better world of thinking of people doing a regular 9-5 creating wishes and amazing things. Throw in a handsome devil and you have a story that is a wish come true.

Complete frothy escapism!
Helen Harper’s books are just the antidote to living with lockdown, social distancing and self isolation. Forget coronavirus, immerse yourself in a world of faeries, you won’t regret it!

A great series!
I love Helen's characters. They are easy to like and reflect some of our own characteristics - they're not infallible. The story moves at a fast pace, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! An absolutely brilliant series!
