I dunno from "Power Piccolo" and all that jazz; this is just a great drum. First time I saw it in a drum shop, I whacked it a coupla times and bought it on the spot. It has a wonderful, woody tone, and is quite like a Jazz Festival a friend owns. It can be cranked up a bit for a little more pop, and tuned low and fat as well. Mine seems to love either Evans J1 or the coated Ambassador it came with. Either way, I wouldn't go to a heavy batter on this puppy. It's timbre is just that wonderful, and the African Mahogany just doesn't sound like anything else. Soooooo sweet! And the price is right as well. Only problem is, I want a small jazz kit made of this wood, and that means a Masterworks kit... Buy this drum! For any kind of oldies or jazz, it's in its element. Also, you wouldn't think it, but having a 13" drum instead of a 14" at the throne is far more comfortable than one lousy inch would seem. A great price for a great product. Get one soon, before Pearl yanks it! :D
