Zorba the Greek
B**C
Something to read again and again
Although the start of this book is very slow, keep going. The character of Zorba is even better than what the movie could convey. I loved the characters and also the use of language, the way the writer presented his story. Anthony Quinn did a great job of portraying Zorba in the movie, but movies can't duplicate everything that's in a book. That's true in this case. If you think you liked the movie, wait till you read the book. Imagine Zorba in even greater detail, with far more dimensions, and with more love of life and basic life wisdom. Normally I'll read a book, then pass it on. This one, though, is a keeper, something I look forward to reading many times.

The journey as just as important as the destination
Zorba The Greek is a novel that should be required reading in school, but sadly it is not. It is a wonderful story that explores life and what it means to be alive. It teaces you the perils of impulsive behavior, jealousy, and the joys of innocense and simple living. If you have only seen the movie, reading the book will give you a better sense of the author's intent and goal, that in life, the journey is as important as the destination and sometimes, we need a little madness if we are ever to cut the ropes of our own making and be free.

This story is magic. Zorba is magic.
I purchased this book after having first watched the film Zorba the Greek starring Anthony Quinn.Having now absorbed both book and film I can confidently state that the book is far superior to the film.Nikos Kazantzakis is buried in Heraklion, Crete. The epitaph on his gravestone reads,"I hope for nothing. I fear nothing. I am free."If that speaks to you, if that makes complete sense to you then read this book.

ontvangen in goede staat op 10 januari 2017.
Interessant boek over de de Grieks-Turkse strijd en de aansluiting van Kreta bij Griekenland.Filosofisch wat bizar (Boedha) Zorba is toch een uitvreter. (Nescio)
