First one lasted ten years!
I just purchased this again for the second time. The first one lasted almost ten years, so I'd say that's a pretty good design! We are mostly using the baffle as a dome covering for the bird feeder, so I can't speak to a situation where squirrels may try to leap onto it. But for us, with it just hanging over the feeder year round, it lasted a long time. We only bring it in if there are tornado force winds predicted, so it has been out through rain, snow, freezing temperatures, and of course, the heat of summer. The first one finally cracked and I didn't want the birds or seed to get soaked in the rain, so came back to purchase a second one. Very happy with this purchase.

Solved Our Squirrel Problem in an Attractive Way
For us this squirrel baffle has been the perfect solution to squirrels raiding the bird feeder. In addition, the design is good-looking and even shields the feeder from rain.

Definite design flaw so be forewarned
This is an excellent quality shield! The problem is I will have to return mine. It may require pictures to really explain this but you get the dome and then you also get a plastic collar with a hook assembly. The idea is to insert the collar and hook assembly into the dome and ideally the dome should latch into the collar with the three teeth and grooves designed. If it did it would form one solid unit and it would be fantastic! But it does not lock into those teeth therefore you hang the collar and your feeder and the dome just kind of sits there loosely balancing on the collar! The first breeze and it’s going to be tilted because the dome is just sitting loosely on the collar and once you see it or if you look closely at the picture you can see what I’m talking about. Heaven for bid a squirrel would touch it because it would actually tip and make it extremely easy for the squirrel to get onto the feeder forming a sort of bridge! Not what the designer had in mind I’m sure. I might decide to use clear silicone and adhere the dome to the collar because as a rain shield on a hummingbird feeder it’s fantastic provided it can be secured to the collar so that when the wind blows it isn’t just flopping around. But for the price I am not certain I should have to try to adhere it and then find out on down the road that it’s coming done or other complications have developed.16 inches is absolutely the best size for rain and sun shield! And the other ones are too small but this really needs to be redesigned or plan on using epoxy when you get it and hope that you glue it straight.I am very disappointed because the quality is fantastic aside from the design flaws especially because it’s such a wonderful size. The other ones don’t have the diameter needed. An 8 inch or 10 inch shield won’t work especially if the feeder hangs down several inches like most of them do. 14 inches is about the minimum and 16 is wonderful. In all cases though the feeder needs to be up in the dome to benefit from protection from rain and sun. This can be easily accomplished by getting a shorter hook assembly from your hardware. But possibly not with this dome due to poor design

Keeps the birds dry.
Great product with great customer service. When I received mine it was damaged, reached out to the seller and they were very prompt and helpful in resolving the issue. Not much going to keep the squirrels away since my feeder is near a fence but mainly wanted it to keep the feed dry and protection for the smaller birds from the hawks. Got to say it does both, only way the seed gets wet is when the rain is not coming down straight.

Flying Saucer
It has discouraged the squirrels. I am using an overhead hanger mount so the unit hangs from the hanger rod. The squirrels continue to try to figure out how to get around it but give up. However, it has issues with wind. The disc just sits on the hub and is free to move so it tilts when the squirrels try to get on it.. I had to invent hold down bungee straps to keep the disc from raising up off its hub and ending up positioned over the horizontal part of my hanger arm. The wind causes lift and once I had the light bungee straps in place, it lifted my nearly empty feeder off and the whole unit fell to the ground. I closed the loops on the hanger hooks to make it harder to come off the hanger and I now fill the feeder when windy weather is forecasted to make it heavier. With these modifications, it is working better and in the 3 weeks since I put it up, the squirrels have not been able to get on it from the top the way they always were able to in the past. A couple of times the squirrels did jump over from the vertical part of the hanger rod and were able to get to it but they had to hang upside down on the feeder and would sometimes fall off. They stopped doing that after falling a couple of times. I initially put some Vaseline on the vertical hanger rod so they could not climb it and that stopped them and now they longer try.

Very poor design
The size of the baffle is what I wanted and the thickness of the plastic was sturdy, however the design with the coupler in the middle that holds the hooks in place is terrible. I was assembling it when I realized the 3 plastic teeth the metal hook is supposed to fit into to hold it in place, one "tooth" was totally broken off and I found it inside the plastic packaging it came in. Even if it wasn't broken I questioned it's water-proof ability. I wanted it specifically to shield the feeder from rain. Very disappointed. I had to return the item and will be sure to never buy one with that poor design again. There's really NO reason to have a big hole and coupler like that to hold the hooks, I have a couple that only have a tiny hole for the hooks and they work GREAT.

great cover
we had 2 former identical ones and the hooks were in 2 pieces which screwed together and would come apart after the feeders were used by the birds. these new ones have the hooks as one unit and is so easy to use and all protect our feeders from the rain and snow. these are the only ones that we found that are 16in and cover all our feeders and will buy these again if we add more feeders. keeps the birds out of the weather while feeding and has attracted more birds

shield
This works perfectly. It covers the feeder to keep rain off but lets the orioles and occasional hummingbird see and be seen. They can easily reach the feeder without this getting in the way

works like a charm
this hood has resisted squirrels (and rats) from returning to the bird feeder. it was very easy to hang on the feeder station and hang the feeder below this hood. I would r3ecommend this product to anyone considering a purchase. of course the bird feeder needs to kept sufficiently far from other surfaces so that the squirrels cant reach the feeder from them.

I am using it on top of my hanging bird ...
I am using it on top of my hanging bird feeder. It seems to be working quite well. I got sick of feeding the squirrels. They try but can't seem to be able to get around it. Then one day I saw a squirrel in the feeder. I don't know how it did, but have not had any since. That's why it got a 4 stars instead of 5.

Plenty big for bird feeders
Only thing I wish there would have been a clear plastic attachment you could put on the top to make sure no water gets through where the hook attachment goes through, I ended up glueing an clear piece of Tupperware lid to the top hook to make it absolutely waterproof

Does not keep squirrels from reaching the feeder.
I bought this baffle to keep the squirrels from getting to the bird feeder, but they still managed to get to the feeder. It didn’t help that way, but it does help to keep the feeder dry from rain and snow.
