Blasphemous for Nintendo Switch (Limited Run Games #52)

As expected, the shipment took a while but it arrived, without a doubt one of the best games on the platform and Limited Run and still an excellent price since today this game costs more than double in the hands of resellers or collectors

This was my first Limited Run Games purchase and I was expecting to get the image as advertised, but got this which was the original version (though this had the "Limited Run" logo on the lower right).I'm disappointed coz I wanted the image as advertised.

Amazing game. Fun side scroll dark souls.

To think that the development group that made The Last Door would go on to make an awesome Metroidvania-style hack and slash using heavy Andalusian influences, well I can say I was quite surprised.Blasphemous has you playing as the The Penitent One, a man who is trying to stop the never-ending cycle of death and rebirth of this world. If you've played Dark Souls or especially Bloodborne, you'll feel right at home. However a big difference here between Blasphemous and the souldsborne games is that much of the world is inspired by real-world locations and culture. The Game Kitchen (the devs) are out of Seville, Spain and have used the history of that region to great effect. You'll see Moorish & Spainish influences with artistic liberties throughout. At times, I'm even reminded of the works of Goya as you make your way through certain environments.Speaking of, movement feels tight and responsive with no lag. You have a parrying system that's done quite well with the same frame-timing you would have in Dark Souls. Combat is also well done, you have a basic combo system with dodging, various Miracles (basically spells\miracles in Dark Souls) and more that you can obtain throughout the game.There is also a good amount of different environmental hurdles and platforming challenges to overcome, this is not a cakewalk so expect to retry a lot at certain times. Boss variety is good with some really challenging your combat skills, again you'll need to consider your strategy or build for the fight.I don't want to speak to anything more of Blasphemous in the review, part of the fun of these games is discovery and figuring things out for yourself. Blasphemous is a really good game, you'll get quite a few hours if you're looking to do everything that's available. I highly recommend it to anyone who is a fan of the genre, I'm certainly looking forward to what The Game Kitchen comes out with next.

This is a special game To me. I played it when i was in a tough place and it got me back into gaming. I love this game. Its got amazing gameplay (have on pc and switch) and the lores amazing. 11/10
