MODERN COLORED PENCIL is a great fun book to learn to draw with colored and become a better artist.
I just received this wonderful book on working with colored pencils last night and I am excited to read and use it just thumbing through it. It’s perfect for beginners with excellent advice, suggestions and care of your products and what you’ll need, how to draw form and gestures correctly, an introduction to drawing architecture and landscaps and livening them up with color and understanding how color works and how to use it with inspiration and ideas on drawing with color and hone your skills as an artist all around. I have to say that this is a great book for intermediate artists too and has great things for old timers as well.“Modern Colored Pencils” also helps you to become a better artist by showing how to see shapes inside the objects you are drawing, how to “see” and more. It’a fun way to learn and become a better artist. This is a wonderful buy and is a book you will want to hold onto and keep for referring back to.Great gift for upcoming artist and anyone who just wants to get the best results and the most out of your drawings with colored pencils without breaking the bank.

Terrific Resource!
As someone who doesn't dabble in colored pencils that often, I was happy to find this book. It's thoughtful and encouraging throughout the instruction and I thought the color swatches were very helpful! Especially since there's so many brands of colored pencils, it's nice to just look through my pack and find the color closest to it rather than hunting down the exact color and brand. Saves me money and time! The color wheel explanations were helpful too. Since my personal pencil set is a bit limited, it's great to have some guidance in which colors to blend to make the most of my current set of pencils. Overall I'm really excited to work my way through this book and challenge myself to draw the more difficult exercises!

description and content don't match up
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I hate to be so hard on a book as I know how much effort the author and publisher put into one, but I didn't like it and found nothing useful inside. It's billed as "modern" and "contemporary" with the author "sharing her tips an techniques for learning to draw with colored pencils". I saw none of that. The basics are here, but those basics have been around since the invention of colored pencils, there is no modern or contemporary techniques in this book. Nothing I haven't seen for years and years. The beginning of the book gives you a basic introduction on pencils, papers and erasers. I recently got my first electric eraser, which I think is "modern and contemporary" and would have liked to see a review of them, but they aren't mentioned in this book. Then you get the basic mark making techniques and color wheel stuff you get in every single book on the subject ever written. Nothing new here either. The back of the book says "you'll discover how to draw a variety of familiar subjects..." but again, no instruction on how to draw anything other than a dahlia is given. All other lessons assume you already know how to draw, where/how to add highlights, distance and perspective and such. The lessons are not, in my opinion, lessons. They don't actually 'teach' anything. For instance, the first lesson is the lemon (which I've included a picture of). Step 1 is to draw something....which assumes you know how to draw. It then says to 'break it down to it's basic shapes and make note of where the highlights are'. Did you learn anything from that?My point is that if I knew how to draw and break things down to basic shapes and where to put highlights, I wouldn't buy a book that supposedly teaches me how to draw as I'd already know....and if I didn't know how to do that, this book simply telling me to do that wouldn't teach me anything. On most of the lessons she does show you the color palatte she used to color her drawings...but she doesn't give you any brand name or number so it will be quite difficult to follow along or replicate her results in my opinion. So, while I hate to say it, I got nothing new out of this book, just a rehash of every other colored pencil book.

Just WOW!
The amount of details, projects and wisdom filled inside this book is incredible! Chelsea has different sections explaining all the steps to draw patterns, fruits, animals and so much more! I'm excited to finish all the projects! This book is great if you are looking for something fun, new and different! It's a must-have!

I liked this book!
This book provides excellent coursework for improving one’s technique in the use of colored pencils. The author starts from the beginning by introducing the supplies needed as well as proper techniques for working with colored pencils. Then, the reader/student is introduced to observing patterns and step-by-step instructions for drawing everyday objects, architecture, landscapes, animals, and people. The well-written instructions provide the reader/student with the opportunity to learn at their own pace. So, this is an excellent instruction manual for personal use or as a gift.I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book that was provided by the publisher through Net Galley. However, the thoughts and opinions presented here are my own.

Un libro imperdibile
Un libro fantastico che insegna un modo graduale un uso moderno ed illustrativo della matita colorata. Non ha quello stile iperrealista che non amo; lo stile è moderno e pittorico. Stupendo!! Tantissimi esempi. Consigliatissimo!
