Lee Precision90798, Universal Neck Expanding Die, 25 to .45 Caliber

This tool is a universal tool for flaring case mouths. It is essential for loading cast rifle bullets, as most rifle dies do not include a feature for flaring the case mouth. If you don't do this while reloading rifle ammunition, the bullets' base will shave lead on seating in the cartridge case.I use this tool for all cast bullet rifle reloading. Lee includes two inserts with the tool. One for smaller diameter cartridges; the other is for larger diameter cartridges. Changing from one to the other simply involves unscrewing the tools top piece, allowing the current insert to drop out, and then installing the new one. I dropped the top piece, it rolled under my bench, and I couldn't find it. I called Lee via their customer service number and they shipped a new one to me for free. That's really excellent service.I'm trying to think of something I don't like on this tool and I'm coming up empty. It's well engineered, easy to use, and it works well. The price is very reasonable. Lee makes first class reloading gear.

I bought this because I use the Lee die sets, and the rifle dies don't have a mouth expanding die. This was a problem for me with 300 Blackout because I'm using flat base plated bullets, so they really need a bit of mouth expansion. This universal expanding die solved that problem. Later I found that the powder thru expanding dies that come with the pistol sets really don't work very well sometimes. The 380 ACP die would catch on the case mouths and damage them. The other powder thru expanding dies just don't work well when used with the Lee auto drum powder measure, because you can't adjust the amount of mouth belling. The spring tension on the auto drum determines that, and you can't adjust it. So when you charge a case a few times, when initially weighing the charge before loading a batch, you get more and more mouth expansion. And the worst part is I had some 357 and 380 cases that only got a partial charge, because the mouth gets so belled out that the expansion bit goes in too deep, and the auto drum doesn't travel up all the way. It's really not a good setup. So now I use this universal expanding die along with the Lee short and long charging dies for all rifle and pistol calibers. This setup works great, and solved all of my problems! Also, this is a pretty neat design with the 2 bits that you can mix and match in either direction so it can work with any pistol or rifle case (.45 cal and under at least).

Having one adjustable die for almost any caliber is significantly cheaper than having to buy a whole kit for each diameter like what the nearest competitor requires

So initially it is a Lee which I have always had great luck out of. However, I haven't gotten to use this one yet because it came in a box missing the small punch which is the one I need it for. So now I am trying to see if I can get it replaced from Lee. Which puts me behind on reloading. The item came in a envelope with the die free floating around. The die storage box was closed with the paperwork in it. I opened the box and low and behold no small punch. I don't know if this is common with Lee reloading items but this is the second time in a month on Amazon I have gotten Lee dies missing components. I am sensing a trend. I will update my review once I can use the item.Update: Lee customer service was fantastic, sent me the part that was missing and made sure I got it quick.

I liked that this Lee neck case expander worked flawlessly and that it has not one,, but two forms to expand a cases. I recommend this die.

Like all Lee products-- they work. This die made my reloading experience so much easier. Love it.

I bought this on a recommendation of a friend when he saw me struggling to get 30-30 flat based bullets seated as the necks were tight. I use this to slightly flare the case mouths so I can get the bullets started straight.

Works very well for lead bullets with the thin 45-70 cases, before I had this die, I had a lot of problems with the case buckling when seating a lead bullet. I also highly recommend getting the lee 45-70 factory crimp die as well.
