Dr. Harness deserves praise for this work. The majority of it is appropriate for a novice, and actually serves as a great starting point for exploring this differentiating aspect of Vedic Astrology. From helping ascertain insights into the Ascendant, Moon, and Sun in the birth chart to simply gaining awareness of how the influences of these lunar mansions can affect you day to day as you step out of your own front door. The readers attention will be held and inspired. Understanding these lunar mansions is perhaps the most essential and differentiating aspects of Vedanga Jyotish. Not to mention the added bonuses of how to use the nakshatras to to pick auspicious dates to begin new things or plan events. Also, the section on relationship compatibility is wonderful. It was a first opportunity for me to explore the kutas. My partner and I have quit a unique dynamic and this system nailed it!! It is worth noting that Dr. Harness acknowledges gay and lesbian people in his work. This is rare and appreciated. Discard the negative reviews posted with regard to this book. They are bound to pop up. Several of today's most respected Vedic Astrologers, from East and West, have referenced and even endorsed this book. Anyone curious can research the conflicting opinions about the Yugas (not even addressed in this work) and draw their own conclusions. It's a small world out there and I have found myself connected to this man through spiritual family. His light hearted, positive approach to astrology comes from a place grounded in devotion and motivated by the healing of all who seek truth, and he has dedicated his life to helping others. He is respected by peers and great teachers alike. Enjoy this read!! From here on Jyotish requires quite a bit of scholarship and natural inclination to really apprehend its wisdom. Hari Om!

this book was an OK read. I expected much better though given the preface and introduction by Frawley. I however left disappointed as the info on each nakshatra was no more than 2 pages with a third page being a summary. It comes across as too simplistic and geared towards an absolute beginner with no knowledge of Hinduism or vedic astrology. Given the name and recommendations by such esteemed men in the field I though this book was going into a comprehensive account of each nakshatra with some modern elements thrown in. It merely rehashed the basics which you will find in any google search.

Excellent explanation of the Vedic system of Astrology wherein the moon makes its annual transits and birth aspects. This can be used for composite information between Indian and Western astrology for a more complete understanding of the importance of the power of one's own individual moon aspect and others' moon aspects which represent not only the inner feminine, but is also symbolic of the element of the feminine in every sector of the zodiac.

A great intro to the lunar mansions and the relationship compatibility section alone is worth the price.

Decent. Not very in depth. Probably good for its time. Not bad to have on the jyotish books shelf.

Great book.

Nothing special has been described in this book. If you are just a beginner (let’s say it’s only a month since you are learning astrology & know nothing about nakshatras)then go for it otherwise you don’t need it. Find something better with deeper knowledge & explanation.

An excellent, very thorough introduction to Nakshatras, the lunar mansions of Vedic astrology. The author not only describes the meaning of each Nakshatra and their influence on our natal chart. He also explains how can we use the knowledge of lunar mansions for judging relationship compatibility, as well as for estimating the optimal timing to undertake any new venture, such as starting a new business or moving to a new house. Highly recommended book.

Its more of a beginners book about Nakshatras... nicely explain but not in depth.... if you are started learning about nakshatras and thinking to buy this book then go for it...
