sought-after work glove in Antarctica
I worked seventeen seasons in Antarctica. These Kinco 1927 gloves were the preferred work glove amongst most of the experienced workers unless it was so cold mittens were required. These are warmer (and more durable) than many fancy-schmancy gloves made by sexier brands associated with mountaineering and sell for many times more than the Kincos. These are perfect in cold/dry conditions. As other reviewers have mentioned, be sure to treat the leather with a water-repellent conditioner: SnowSeal, Obenauf's, etc., especially something with beeswax is great. In truly cold conditions a Goretex or similar "waterproof/breathable" membrane is not only irrelevant but will hinder the passage of water vapor toward the outside of the glove (despite marketing claims of membrane manufacturers). For the average person in good health with decent circulation and doing moderate physical activity, these can remain comfortable well down into the positive teens Fahrenheit. I usually switched to mittens if expecting temps below ten degrees above. All temp references are ambient--windchill temps are irrelevant except for exposed skin, unless you are the local TV meteorologist who doesn't understand the history of the windchill concept and who likes to scare folks.

These ARE the BEST for me
If serviceable and effective gloves can be any better than these I have not found them. I cam across these gloves a few years ago and have used them for almost every outside job I can think of except those that require cleaning the septic tank. When they arrived in the winter they were put to use immediately by shoveling several inches of snow. They provided full protection against creating blisters and best of all they are so warm there was never one hint of my hands getting cold even at less than freezing temperatures. My hand span is over 9" and the gloves fit perfectly for an XLG. A larger or smaller size would not fit as well. A large size would be too small and while an XXLG might be a little loose I still prefer one that is just right. If the hand span exceeds 10" then the next size would be better. The knit cuffs add an extra element of protection from wind and cold while that stripe on the palm side is a great addition. It permits pulling the glove onto the hand without stretching the ribbing. The blue and white stripe on the back permits excess heat to leave and it is handy for wiping off snow and other wet invaders. Stitching does not interfere with comfort as many gloves do. It is so bothersome for me to have a nice glove with raw or uncomfortable stitches interfering with the effectiveness of the glove. These have stitching but I do not notice them.A friend suggested that they are a tad pricy; however, the price is well worth a glove that works and works far better than I expected it to do. The only question I have is "how does one go about taking care of them?" How does one go about cleaning them? Do you wash them in the washing machine with a mild soap and water or just throw them away when they are so dirty they stand up by themselves?

Regular local skier/part-time weekend "Liftie" ... I *love* these gloves.
As a regular weekend "Liftie" at a northeast ski resort, I *love* these gloves. I have both the 1927KWs and 901s. I do a couple of treatments of SnoSeal using the oven trick to get them ready for outside work. (First : Use a Sharpie permanent marker for your your name or initials on the leather portion. Second : I warmed my gloves in a 200-180 F oven for 5-10 minutes, then applied the SnoSeal to the warm leather of the glove...twice) I have three pairs of the 1927KWs and a pair of 901s as my backup ski gloves. The 901s are a little more durable because of the additional leather but do not break in as quickly and not quite as flexible. (but I love them too for the colder days) I purchased a pair of these 1927KW everyday wear around the house. Since we are getting close to the end of the season & the price drops (occasionally), I am going to purchase a couple more pairs for my inventory. I have recommended these gloves to my various coworkers at my "day job" job for shoveling and snow blowing. Once these gloves are broken in, they will be your favorite "go-to" gloves. Not the gloves I would reach for in the coldest of weather. As other reviewers have mentioned, look around at many of the local regular skiers, ski patrol and lift operators, you will see a lot of these gloves.Update : After yet another season at the mountain as regular skier & part-time Liftie, these Kinco gloves continue to meet or exceed my expectation. In fact, I have purchased these gloves for two of my daughters and encouraged my brother to purchase a pair as well. They are just great winter work gloves and "every day wear" gloves. I have three pairs of these gloves for work now, one to wear while the other two are drying out from the previous days. Because of the great price of these gloves, that is easily affordable. However, they dry out over a heater vent just fine. Remember to apply your favorite leather treatment afterwards.
