The Same But Different Too

What a sweet and beautifully illustrated book! I love it.

I wanted to love this book but the over-the-top heavy-handed message is 100% boring to young children. It fell flat as a pancake with three class groups of children so I returned it. As a teacher for 18 years I can tell you even the smallest student thinks this is kind of book is annoying. I’m still searching for a picture book with positive message about acceptance that is still an enjoyable read-aloud to children.

This book is much loved in our house! The pictures are adorable.

My 4yr old chose this book but my 6yr old loves reading to to him. It’s one of our favourite bedtime reads. We love the rhyming words which are thought provoking, teamed with beautiful illustrations which help drive our conversations. The QR code is fantastic, it means we can all concentrate on looking at the pictures whilst listening to the story - there’s so much to see!

I bought this for my 8 year old, as a little reminder we are all different and that is a good thing. She is an advanced reader and I didn't think she would bother with this, but she loves the illustrations. She is a BIG worrier and has BIG thoughts and BIG worries. She often worries about how she is different to her friends and it is good to read an easy message that has reassured her. She has read this multiple times since we have bought it.

This is a wonderful book that I bought for my Y2 class to enjoy to remind them that, no matter our differences, we’re all special and wonderful! The simple rhyme is appealing to the children and the illustrations are wonderful!
