I'D RATHER SEE ARCHIE: THE COMPLETE DAILY NEWSPAPER COMICS FROM 1949-1951!
It's no well-kept government secret! I'm a huge BOB MONTANA fan and I'm not upset at all that I got this book! It's got a lot of cool laugh out loud moments! Thank you, IDW for publishing more and more ARCHIE newspaper archive edition comics to add to my collection! However, all is not as well as it should be....Honestly?...The ARCHIE: NEWSPAPER COMICS (1960-1963)is a welcomed addition to any hardcore ARCHIE fan's library! The book is visually superb and is printed at a very nice size! Plus, all of the old ARCHIE newspaper proofs are reproduced here in a sweet, affordable, fine manner. Yet, I am so totally bummed and highly upset that IDW didn't print the ARCHIE: NEWSPAPER COMICS (1949-1951)! I'm sorry. I may need therapy on this issue because it's one that I can't seem to get over!In the ARCHIE: NEWSPAPER COMICS(1946-1948)edition, we got to truly enjoy the great love triangle between ARCHIE/BETTY/VERONICA! Also, we got to see the hilariously funny arch-rivalry between REGGIE MANTLE and ARCHIE ANDREWS as they try to out-do, out prank, and one-up each other to see who dates the lovely VERONICA LODGE.Clearly, this is what I was totally expecting and wanting so desperately to see when I bought this edition. Sadly,us legions of ARCHIE fans don't get much of that in this book that showcases the ARCHIE cast as they transition into the 1960's. Rather, we get hundreds of one page gags that mostly puts the spotlight on the other minor supporting characters of the ARCHIE universe. Frankly, they're characters that I don't really care about and don't want to see like ARCHIE'S other teachers, the cafeteria/lunchroom lady, and the school's janitor. I dunno. In this aspect of owning and reading this book, it feels kind of like you're going to Disneyland and you're all excited to see Mickey Mouse, but when you get there you're forced into hanging out with all the people who clean the park and make sure that all of the rides work properly. Yeah, in a way, that's what this edition feels like. ...Still enjoyable but not what I was expecting.I'm sorry. I'm taking my black jacket off for this book. It's making me feel lukewarm. However,I do agree with my fellow AMAZON.COM reviewer of this book, TOM HENRIKSEN, up to a point: I'm not sorry that I bought this book but like TOM HENRIKSEN, I really loved and really preferred BOB MONTANA'S serialized story-telling arc style that he had going on in the sweet ARCHIE NEWSPAPER COMICS (1946-1948) edition! Plus, I absolutely loved the ARCHIE'S SUNDAY FINEST book as well!In closing, I do say to my beloved IDW Publishing: PLEASE PRINT ARCHIE: THE COMPLETE DAILY NEWSPAPER COMICS(1949-1951) NEXT!...And please keep cranking out more new editions of those ARCHIE SUNDAY FINEST books, too!

Four Years of four-panel singleton one-gag strips
Hi: The book is well-made with an attractive design. My problem is with the content. All four years are daily, single, discontiguous, four-panel one-gag stips. I really enjoyed "Archie The Complete Daily Newspaper Comics 1946-48" and "Archie's Sunday Finest from the 40's and 50's" with contiguous stories. Likewise the Dark-Horse Archie Archives Volume 1-8 are fantastic.Hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of one-strip gags just isn't enjoyable with no space for story development. The book is well-made but not the content.I'm sorry I ordered the book.A typical page of three strips:Strip One Panel 1: Elderly teacher to Miss Grundy - Where's that Pretty Little Plant You Had on Your Desk Last Year. Miss Grundy - Oh, I left it Down in the Boiler Room for the Summer.Strip One. Panel 2: Miss Grundy - I'd forgotten All About It!Strip One. Panel 3: Miss Grundy - I hope Mr. Svensen Remembered to Water and Feed It.Strip One. Panel 4: Mr. Svenson opens the door to the boiler room with the huge plant growing out the door, saying Ya?Strip Two. Panel 1: Weatherby to Miss Beazly, Cafateria Lady, - This is the age of the soft sell! Try to Entice the Students to Eat Your Food!Strip Two. Panel 2: Weatherby to Miss Beazly, Cafateria Lady, - You've Got to Tickle Their Palates! Miss Beazley - I'll Leave the Feathers on the Chicken.Strip Two. Panel 3: Weatherby to Miss Beazly, Cafateria Lady, - Please! Miss Beazley! What I Mean is ..... Get more COLOR Into Your Menus!Strip Two. Panel 4: Weatherby surprised in cafeteria to see sign - Blueberry Fish Chowder.Strip Three. Panel 1: Weatherby Observing Miss Grundy Teaching: Miss Grundy - Class! Who was the Fourteenth President of the United States?Strip Three. Panel 2: Miss Grundy - What's a Hindu Woman's Garment?Strip Three. Panel 3: Weatherby - Miss Grundy Sure Digs Up Some Intersting Test Questions!Strip Three. Panel 4. Miss Grundy reading a crossword puzzle. Not my cup of tea but as ABC Snoopy said: "Who cares, it's still funny."Hope this gives you an idea of what you'll get if you buy.

Everything's Archie
Archie is what got me started reading comics and anytime I feel nostalgic I order one of these collections compiling all of their older work. It's quite a sight to get a time capsule of what small-town America was like back in the 50's and 60's.So for anyone who's a fan of these characters I'd highly recommend you pick this up. Archie's here. Betty's here. Veronica too. Reggie's here and here comes Jughead and Hot Dog too.

A great book! Full of laughs!A large collection of the laugh-a-day newspaper comics from decades ago.Funny, and the Archie Gang characters come through very well.Betty & Veronica are pin-up grade, throughout. The book has an attractive design, & is agreeable in every way.Well worth your sheckles. Also, try the companion volume-- Archie: The Classic Newspaper Comics (1946-1948)

Remember When Comics Were Fun?
These comic strips are classic Archie. They're not the older--and also great stuff--from the first volume, and the jump forward is disappointing. I hope the intervening years are also collected. However, they remain funny if not quite as biting as the earlier strips.

Love Archie's comics since I was a kid
Love Archie's comics since I was a kid. I've been looking for a compilation of old strips and finding this was such a treat. It came in hard cover too so that was a plus for me. Great buy!

I'm disappointed that you can rarely find any Archie comics in ...
These are real gems in the comic book world. I'm disappointed that you can rarely find any Archie comics in any comic shop but buying them from Fantagraphics Publishing via Amazon will save you a lot of money and hardcover book form of these newspaper strips is the best way to read them.
