Groundwork: The First Impression Hardcover – January 1, 1997

This is an excellent starting manual for beginning a young horse but requires a great deal of prior knowledge on the part of the reader. Buck does a great job of giving the right steps in desensitizing and conversely in sensitizing properly the young horse. If you haven't spent a lot of time around horses, get some training yourself before reading this book. For me, (have had my own horses for 54 years) it is a great manual and I continue refreshing my memory by reviewing it before grabbing the soft "lass" and heading to the round pen.

Buck is one in a trillion. Gentle souls are not born, they are created out of the cauldron of fire and heat. He's done well to forge through it and to give us this lesson!

I have read a bunch of this kind of book,but Bucks version is the easiest to understand and has great photos to help with the explaination. I hope to attend one of his clinics this fall when he comes to my area.

Buck is the ULTIMATE horseman but he doesn't know his audience. I have seen him be unnecessary cruel to a 50 yo woman who was "being taught" to rope.I love his methodology! I love his clinics! Just wish he would be a bit more considerate.

This book is a fine example of good things coming in small packages. I have other books by this author, and find them equally useful, but this slender volume is my favorite of his work. Like Ray Hunt and a few others, Brannaman belongs in every horseman's library.

Some good points; however an absolutely tiny book, more like a pamphlet, and a huge expense. I read through it in disbelief, then I returned it.
