Degen DE1127 AM/FM/SW Pocket Radio with 4GB MP3 Player, Voice Recorder & E-book Reader

The DE1127 is much smaller than I expected. The performance of both AM and FM is better than I expected. Changing batteries is a challenge as has been documented by others. Often, the radio will come back to life with menus set to Chinese only. In order to set the unit back to English, or your preferred language, if different than Chinese, you must carefully count the menu steps through two levels of menus to arrive back at your preferred language setting. Not difficult, but genuinely a pain to do, until after you've done it a few times.The sensitivity of the voice recorder is poor, so I would not judge this unit suitable for recording classes or meetings, but it's fine for verbal personal note taking. When recording from the radio, it sets the volume of the radio to a rather loud fixed level, which cannot be altered while recording. Also, while recording radio programs, additional digital hash/noise is occasionally introduced into the recording that is not present while listening to the radio alone.Don't buy this unit for the recorder, buy it for the radio. (It's nice and small, and sounds good and performs well for its diminutive size.) Just remember this radio is as delicate as it is small. It will not survive rough treatment, but should be fine if you treat it with care.

I really just intended to use this for the AM radio aspect but ended up using it for playing recorded comedy instead. Really, this is a good product. Had to read the instructions as many of the buttons were dual purpose based on how long you pressed the buttons. When listening to spoken audio, when it reaches the end of a track the sound fades out and then fades back in for the next track. For music - you wouldn't notice, but for spoken word or 'continuous' sound ... very noticeable.I'm happy with this item, the battery lasts a long time as well.

always loved little crystal sets, spy radios, This thing records voice, plays music, AM, FM, shortwave, Had mine go bad just shy of a year and they sent me a replacement. Manual is for an earlier version so there's a bit of a struggle there. Antenna can be clipped to a long wire, wall socket, etc for better reception.

IT'S NOT UP TO EVEN PAR WITH OTHER RADIO I BOUGHT FROM AMAZON. LOOKS GREAT GOOD PACKAGE BUT IT HAS A VERY WEAK ANTENNA TO PULL OUT NOT STRONG AT ALL WILL BEND EASY IF NOT CAREFULL, WEAK SPEAKER SOUND. ITS INSTRUCTIONS ARE ALL IN CHINESSE NO WAY FOR ME TO OPERATE PRODUCT . RECEIVED REFUND VERY FAST AM NOW WAITING FOR THEIR RETUN ADDRESS TO SEND IT BACK.

I think a younger child would like this... the AM/FM and MP3 give good sound and reception. The SW/MW, as to be expected, don't pickup much without a long-wire antenna.I'd say great gift and learning tool for a younger child.

I have only had this a few weeks but it seems to do everything I wanted it to do. It arrived safe and sound.
