The Story of a Restless Lady
I enjoyed all the firsthand accounts of this talented singer's life and shenanigans. She certainly didn't hold back. This was an interesting, easy read that provided significant insight into the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of country music stardom. Tanya Tucker must have courage and tenacity to overcome the obstacles she placed in her own path. If you think your life has been a bit calm, bordering on boring, read this book for confirmation. And shame on Merle Haggard!

This book was absolutely fantastic-heartbreaking in some parts and brutally honest throughout. I didn't know what to expect because the book I read before this one was Lorrie Morgan's autobiography and it was horrible. This was wonderfully written and Tanya doesn't shy away from any topic. Like many other people, I judged her on the basis of what I'd heard over the years in the tabloids. I'm glad I read this book. Yes, she's had a wild life, but this book managed to change the previously poor opinion I had of her. I highly recommend this book. I couldn't put it down and finished it in one day.

The ups and downs of Tanya's life
I have always been a fan of Tanya Tucker's music, but aside from reading a few brief biographies online and watching a short documentary, knew very little about her life until buying this book. 'Nickle Dreams' is a gem of an autobiography, and once you pick it up - you will not want to put it down. This chunky hardback should give you a good long read, but don't worry about it being dull, for this is a life that more than merits a book of this size. In this warm, witty, and very easy to read memoir, Tanya lays her cards on the table, and holds nothing back. I admired her honesty, and was particularly interested by her poverty childhood, and to read how her beloved father really encouraged his daughter display her innate singing talent and worked hard to make her a star.Like her remarkable career as a chart country artist, Tanya's life has had it's far share of up and downs. She speaks revealingly about the wild parties that came with virtually overnight fame, and her addictions to drugs, resulting in a spell at the Betty Ford Clinic. She can, and does, name drop for the world, and talks about meeting her idol Elvis Presley (whom once called her a "female Elvis"), her volatile relationship with Glen Campbell, and friendships with people like Andy Gibb. She also writes at length about her music which is particularly good, and I enjoyed finding out her opinions about each album.Illustrated with a section of wonderful photographs from Tanya's own personal collection from childhood to the present day (then 1997), as well as a discography of her singles and albums at the end, it has everything. In case you haven't realised yet, I enjoyed this book enormously, and now I know a lot more about Tanya Tucker as a person, I like her even more. She's a real survivor, and a down to earth country music legend with a genuine heart of gold. 'Nickel Dreams' is a rock and roll journey, and the ultimate companion for fans.
