5 Hours of Quality Music from 80+ Films
The media could not be loaded. This is a "Greatest Hits" album in the world of film music... it's got the best movie music released by Varese Sarabande in recent years. This is a follow up to a previous soundtrack release: Varèse Sarabande - A 25th Anniversary Celebration . Since that album covered everything in the first 25 years of Varese Sarabande history, this 30th Anniversary set picks up where it left off and features music from the last 5 years (2003-2008) since that previous album was released. There are approximately 80 films (plus a few TV shows like Lost & 24) represented here over 4 Discs, totaling about 5 hours of music. It's important to note that you are not getting the entire albums, but rather one track/selection from each film. It's a rather impressive lineup of music (there are throwaways of course, but the majority of the music is very high quality). All the usual suspects are represented here: Million Dollar Baby, Shrek 2, The Bourne Supremacy, and so on. Most of the current film music greats each have several tracks here -- Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, John Powell, Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith, Alexandre Desplat, and James Newton Howard (to name a few). Some of my favorite cues are the ones from Blood Diamond, United 93, and The Holiday. There are also some decent superhero themes, such as Hellboy, Fantastic Four, and X-Men: The Last Stand (though none of these are as memorable as the themes for Superman, Iron Man, or The Dark Knight).Overall, it's a good blend of action and drama. I was familiar with about half of these tracks previously, but I discovered a lot of great new music that I had never heard before. I recommend this album because it provides the single best/most memorable pieces of score from many good films from the 2000s. You get all of this music in a nice 4-CD set, and it costs less than twice the price of an average soundtrack.

You couldn't ask for a better compilation.
Any film score fan will probably have noticed that Varese Sarabande is one of the most successful and prolific soundtrack labels of the past several decades. It's somewhat of a given that you have at least dozens, if not, hundreds, of CD's with a maroon or maroon/white spine proudly on your CD rack. It's no surprise, then, that these Varese Sarabande Anniversary Collections are nothing short of outstanding and a must have. This 30th anniversary edition is no exception, with selections of scores from 2003 to 2008, all of them interesting, at the least. The moderate price is a Godsend, and the fact that you get music you're familiar with as well as some hidden gems makes it an ultimate compilation. It's not one of those clichéd "Music from the Movies" albums that feature Chariots of Fire, Star Wars and Casablanca over and over again, without a true portrait of the versatility of film music. If you're not interested in purchasing over 80 soundtrack CD's, but do have a curiosity of listening to summaries of those scores, this is a dream come true.

a lot of music for a great deal
This Varese Sarabande 30th Anniversary Cd set is a collection of film music released from 2003 to 2008. There's something for just about any film score fan here. I don't imagine anyone would love the whole thing, but my guess is that there will at least a few tracks from each disc that you'll enjoy. This is especially great for film score fans that haven't been keeping up with recent releases. Personal favorites of mine are the Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium, All the King's Men, Lost, and Racing Stripes among others. At the end of the day, though, you just can't beat that price for that much music. There's more than one CD's worth of good music here (even to the pickiest listener) for only one CD's price.

Surprisingly good.
The two previous "25th anniversary celebrations" from Varèse Sarabande are a must in any music library, not to mention if one likes cinema music (the real contemporary symphonic music, in my opinion). I was a little reluctant about this one at first, as it covers a very short time span (only five years), and many of the movies are unheard of...at least for me (I do confess I have disappointedly abandoned Western cinema for Far East one for quite some time now). However, the quality of the music is simply breathtaking. Virtually every track is worth to be listend to attentively. Pure musical enjoyment. Get it while supply lasts!!

Varese again
Though a gift, I very much thought of keeping it as some less well-known or distributed tracks are part of this collection. The receiver of the gift was not just happy -- he was ecstatic. VS was kind to include some of the more off-beats and hard to find originals. Not a 5 because many are available, but so many memorable tracks are here for people who want to discover OST's from one of the "premier" distributor of soundtracks.

Many Great Themes, Amazing Value
I've been listening to these 4 discs non-stop since I received it last week. I have have a sizable film score collection, but there are so many awesome tracks here which I never would've thought to explore. The selections and groupings make the whole thing very listenable. Just buy it before it goes out of print; it will be one of the least regrettable film music purchases you've ever made, I promise.

Excellent, and hard to find
finally found it through the a secondary seller. The purchase and service was also excellent. The product had been discontinued by the manufacturer. The price was double, but if you want it was worth the money, I was very pleased with the entire process.

great compilation of film scores
As with their 25th 4 disc set, this 30th anniversary collection of film scores by varese sarabande is fantastic. Film fans along with instrumental music lovers will appreciate this wonderful compilation by today's "classical" composers. The variety and quality of the titles may be surprising, especially if one has not to been exposed to a specific genre. Plus - great value pricing.

Indispensable
