Superb 5.75 Inch Mora Allround 748 knife: My Favorite General Purpose MORA Knife!
This is an excellent general purpose knife for the low price of $ 24.00. This is my favorite Mora knife of all of the others (Mora Companion, TopQ, Light My Fire and 8.1" bladed Allround) I have bought and thus I have two of them from Amazon. The stainless steel is of very high quality since it holds its edge very well, and has not shown any signs of oxidation in the hot and very humid tropics where I live. Thus, the blade requires a minimum of maintenance; ocassional sharpening, and light oil treatment. The handle is very comfortable and completely non-slip, and the 5.75 inch exposed blade feels very balanced. The knife however probably has a half to 3/4 tang (approximately 2-2.5 inches into the handle). Despite not being a full tang knife, this knife is robust enough to perform most tasks, but should not be bashed using another instrument for chopping small/medium sized logs for fire wood, as you could do using a full-tang survival knife but which would cost far more money. The sheath is long, made of thick black plastic, the knife seats well into it with a positive click, has a hole at the bottom to let water out should the knife get wet, and unlike nearly all the other Mora knives has a dual riveted belt loop made of very robust and flexible material. This is an excellent general purpose knife which I also couple with fire starting items, You can drill a hole in the back of the handle and attach these items via 550 paracord.N.B. If you want to use the spine of this knife as a striker on ferro rods, you must file to rounded edges to be completely 90 degrees to get it to make sparks when striking. The best value for money fire starting combo is the alpha encender containing a 12,000 strike ferro rod, a magnesium block and a striker tied together with paracord for only $ 11.00: "Alpha Encender" Fire Starter with Magnesium Rod By Aspen Ridge Sports, Used for Emergency Fire Starter Like Firesteel, Aurora Fire Starter, Bear Grylls Firestarter Good for 12,000 Strike. Works Like A Metal Match If you use this with cotton wool dipped in petroleum liquid or jelly, or the similar Coghlan's tinder, you should be able to start a good fire with only one strike with only a bit of practice: Coghlans Emergency Tinder Replacement 10 Pack Alternatives:The Red or Black Light My Fire 2.0 Army Firesteel which is stated to be suitable for 12,000 strikes, has received a 4.7 star rating from 834 Amazon customers, and only costs $ 14.19! Light My Fire Original Swedish FireSteel Army 12,000 Strike Fire Starter Alternatively, I have also opted to use a pure magnesium block with built-in firesteel stri)p made by DOAN (N.B.Caution: There are many fake magnesium blocks which do not work like the genuine DOAN or The Friendly Sweede blocks) which only costs $ 9.00 and can start many, many fires. You can scrape off a small pile of the magnesium metal from this block USING THE BACK EDGE OF THE KNIFE BLADE (NOT THE SHARP EDGE!!!) SINCE PURE MAGNESIUM IS A RELATIVELY SOFT METAL, AND THEN USING THE SAME BACK EDGE OF THE KNIFE BLADE STRIKE SPARKS FROM THE BUILT-IN FIRESTEEL TO THE MAGNESIUM SHAVINGS. This is easy to perform with very little practice. Doan Magnesium Fire Starter Tool You can also get a great 3 pack of pure magnesium blocks with firesteels and new inprived magnesium scrapers/strikers of only $ 15.00 which will probably last your lifetime (unless you will use them every day) from another company from Sweden! The Friendly Swede Magnesium Emergency Fire Starter Blocks (3 Pack), Black In conclusion, I believe that this Mora Allround 748 knife is a perfect knife for use on its own, and also in combination with the fire starting items mentioned in this review, and I therefore rate this knife as a 5 star product. The author declares that he owns and has tested each of the products mentioned in this review, but also declares that NO CONFLICTS OF INTEREST EXIST in the review of any product mentioned in this review.

Mora knives are fantastic!
As has been said by so many (including myself--I own 11 or 12 Mora knives), Mora makes excellent knives. And when you consider the relatively low cost, well, how can you make a mistake in buying one, or several, or all you can?! This model has a stainless blade just less than 6 inches long, or about 2 inches longer than most Mora models. Model 749 ( my favorite) has an 8 inch blade. They are essentially the same, except for those dimensions. The 749 is, in my mind, simply elegantly beautiful, with a highly polished, bowie-like blade. This 748 is more of a traditional clip-style blade, also nicely polished. Both arrive with a keen, keen edge. Both have a wonderfully shaped, very ergonomic, high-friction handle, which, again in my opinion, is more comfortable than those on the other Mora knives I own. The sheaths are good, holding their contents securely. One thing to mention: both models are described as being 2.5 mm in blade thickness, but that is incorrect. They are about 2 mm thick, which actually works as an advantage in doing what they do best--slicing thru just about anything. It's just that they aren't particularly heavy-duty and (I think) are best suited for kitchen, food prepping kind of work. But remember, ALL Mora knives are tough! I haven't shopped for highend kitchen knives, but I would be very surprised if any such tools could be had for the 20-some dollars that these Moras cost and still have anywhere near the quality.

Another great knife at a great price.
I bought this knife primarily out of curiosity. I have several Mora knives, all with a 4.5 inch blade, and all in carbon steel, so this was my first stainless Mora, and the first with a longer blade. My first thought for a fixed blade is camping and bushcraft. This knife should excel at those tasks, but I never got a chance to find out. My wife saw me slicing some vegetables, tried it herself, and promptly appropriated it for the kitchen. It cuts better than any of our kitchen knives. The stainless blade closed the deal for her. Then she began poring through Amazon's Mora listings to look at chef knives, only to come back to this one. Why spend $75 and up for chef's cutlery, when a long-bladed utility knife can be had for less that $25?It remains to be seen how the edge holds up, and how easy it is to sharpen. In the meantime, I'm going to need to order another for myself.

Too long for utility use
So far have purchased about 16 different models of the Moras to test out and for gifts. These are great knives and incredible bargains. I have found the standard blade lengths are the most useful. The 748 shines as a fish knife, being stainless and with the longer blade. Other wise the standard blade length is more practical for most chores you would task a utility knife with. My favorite at this time is the HighQ robust. It has a thicker blade which I like. The sheath is what it is. It does it's job. Amazon came through as expected. Fast shipping and no problems. A suggestion. Get these knives soon or anything else that comes from overseas. Sooner or later, folks are going to realize that these trillions of dollars the Feds are printing are backed up by nothing but a politician's promise. Prices will rise.

Pig sticker
I wasn't too sure when ordering this knife just because of the length versus practicality. But then again, its a Mora, so as always they don't disappoint. Despite the length the knife is very agile in your hand, and the handle it has is great, and makes the knife feel like an extension of your hand, rather than that you're holding a tool.It seats exceptionally well in the sheath but still pops out with ease. The only negative about it, is that the sheath is all plastic except for the belt loop, which is a thin floppy leather, so not only does the knife tend to bounce a bit on your hip you have to also undo your belt to take it off. The hooked clips on other plastic Mora sheaths is one of the best features about them. Other than that, all you can say about this knife, is that its a Mora so I'd say that sums up the product.
