Excellent connector! No appreciable impedance changes, easy to solder the tip.
Easy enough to solder the tip, and the shielding is tightly held by the course screw in of the base. I tried to solder the base, but even with a 200 watt iron I couldn't get it warm enough. I suppose I could use a small torch, but I think I'm at the point of diminishing returns by soldering it anyway, as the sheilding brade of the coax is tightly held. I checked it on the SWR analyzer, and I have a 1:1.059 SWR at 146.500 mhz, so this connector is not adding any appreciable impedance by not soldering the braid to the base. I've wiggled the heck out of it and tried to see if it would change or differ because I didn't solder it, and it was rock steady. I used both an swr swing-needle meter, as well as a VNA, and got the same great results. I'm happy with it, it should work well for a long time to come. Excellent connector!

Are we connected??
These PL-259s are definitely NOT cheap junk!! They may be made in China but these are high-quality connectors.

Typical lower cost PL-259 - tough to solder
These seem to have a plating that is difficult to solder to - you will neeed to take a file and roughen the surface before soldering the shield - the center pin has a gold plating and readily accepts solder.Otherwise it appears well made and I prefer the Teflon insulator.

Good quality
I purchased these for the coax going from my antenna to the ham radio in my Jeep. This was my first time cutting coax and installing a new PL259. Just as I thought I would, I screwed up the first one and had to toss it. Luckily, I bought two. The second one went together great with no shorts and has been working great with my radio/antenna. I would purchase again.Edit: Just as an update, I liked these so much that I ordered more to do the radio in my son's Jeep. Original order is still working great.***********************************************************************************************************************************************I rely on reviews when I make purchases so I put a lot of time into reviewing everything I buy on Amazon for personal and my business.
