Truly lovely book ~ Contents simply encourages you to turn the page again and again. I think anyone who enjoys glancing over gorgeous photographs that hold a ton of great entertaining ideas would love to have this book.

In India Hicks's latest book, she continues with combining amusing stories from her life, along with points on entertaining that will make everyone feel welcome. This is a fresh and accessible book, which takes the emphasis away from perfection that often bogs down similar books. An Entertaining Story is an easy book to settle into, and is the perfect antidote for these times. It gives readers hope for days ahead when we might once again plan large gatherings.What I like is that there are tips here for everyone. From using garden cuttings to fruit and veg in centerpieces to the use of a variety of vases, glasses, cups, and other containers for flowers - these are things that everyone can execute without having to go buy more stuff. Throughout the book are recipes provided by her chef Claire, aka Top Banana, all of which are within the aim of the average cook, with ingredients that most will already have at home. Hicks charms and relaxes us with her laid back style of entertaining, which is so artfully pulled together that it takes one awhile to realize to appreciate the level of attention, balance, proportion, visual and physical texture. I also enjoyed her insight into the use of seating charts. One oversight: Next time, there needs to be an Index for Top Banana's recipes. I have mine all tabbed with post-its. There is a spontaneity in what she does, which makes for some great juxtapositions as shown in the many photo collages in the book. Unexpected combinations such as roses in a metal wash tub, and children in swimsuits on a deck pouring tea out of fine china, keep it fluid and fun. Along with her wit, abundance of heart, and humor, it makes the reader anticipate what's next, and to keep turning the page.

You really want to keep reading this book - well worth the money and thoroughly enjoyable. Would totally buy it as a present again and again and again!
