The W800 family of RF receivers are designed to receive X10 RF signals generated from X10 products: Palm Pad remotes, key chain remotes, Hawkeye motion detectors, and many, many other X10 RF devices. The W800 then sends these commands directly to your computer's RS232 or USB port, depending on the model purchased. This allows your computer to receive X10 RF commands from remotes and motion detectors directly, without having to broadcast any power line commands, thus minimizing power line clutter and improving home automation response times by bypassing the usual power line delay.

Good Device but No Software available
As with any electronic device, we expect it, and any associated program, along with it's instructions, to be workable and foolproof.In this case, the manufacturer no longer supports the item, in fact there is no software I can find that will activate the drivers for this device. I do have a still workable model of the device, and it operates intermittently, which was my reason for this purchase. The device I'm replacing, has worked flawlessly for 10+ years, but I no longer have the drivers.

X10 FOREVER
This thing is great, plug and play with home Automation Software such as Indigo for Mac. It's even better than my old X10 receiver, no drivers, just connect and point the software to it. X10 is so much cheaper and more reliable than Zwave etc. Indigo recognizes many protocols, but my house is 99% X10. Good to see these are still available. With some good product design this could be a sexy product. The guts work perfect after years of development.
