Essential Book for Tung/Tan Style
When I started looking for other techniques to improve my success rate just out of college, my journey led me to Tung/Tan. I didn't really do a good job of proceeding from the basics to advanced levels (as I had taken some advanced courses through elotus without realizing it). If an acupuncturist asked me now how they should proceed learning distal acupuncture, I would say to first go to Dr Tan's core seminar and then pick up this book. Brad Whisnant writes in a very KISS fashion. I don't have to wade through a lot of extra information that is good to know, but not relevant to the basics. The font is large enough that I'm not squinting (which at 42 years old is really helpful) and he gives all the essential information to start treating right away. If you pick up this book and like the style, I would recommend his other case study books as they too are written in succinct easy instruction. If I get a patient in that I am unsure how to treat using distal acupuncture, I can find one of his case studies quickly and grab the points which he gratefully supplies pictures for, then run into the treatment room. It really saves me a lot of time trying to figure images/mirrors out on my own (especially since I'm still tenuously understanding distal acupuncture). It also saves me the embarrassment of pausing during the treatment as I draw a blank on what to do next. Nothing worse than a patient seeing me with the "Duhhhhh" look on my face.

Very helpful to learn distal/Tung acupuncture
I have been trying to learn Tung acupuncture for over a year. I have been an acupuncturist for over 15 years and learned about this type of acupuncture from friends and Dr. Tan. I have been watching Brad’s webinars and have learned a lot from him. This book is great. I learn something new on every page. If you have been doing local acupuncture and always wanted to learn distal, this book helps a lot. If you have a patient with sacrum pain and do not want to do a local treatment, there are several point options in this book.I find it very hard to put this book down. There are so many things you need to learn to become excellent at Tung acupuncture. I especially like the Letters to Brad section. These letters show how you can use Tung acupuncture for numerous problems, which I have not found in any book to date.If you want to learn distal/balance acupuncture, this book will help you a lot. It finally makes sense to me how I can relieve sacrum pain by using a few points on the head. This book should be required reading for acupuncture students. Being good at treating pain is very important, if you want to make a living at acupuncture.

I really love to read this book.
I like this book its so clearly and have experience in dealing with patient. Especially the description about mirroring and imaging. Im already try in my clinic and fantastic the patient surprise because the pain is gone and Im more surprise because usually for neck pain the patient should come for more than 6 times. But with your books I can make it only just in 1 times. Thanks so much Brad Whisnant and Deborah Bleecker. Good luck with you and Im waiting your other book.

Some gems, but you have to hunt for them
Brad has an excellent command of images, and he gives some very useful tips from his own experience. That being said, the book suffers from poor editing, and the organization could be improved. The tone is conversational, which is moderately acceptable, until the grammar mistakes get in the way of clarity. At one point in the book he says DO NOT needle bilaterally (in capital letters) and in another part he says it is fine to needle bilaterally. Then, at another point, he says needle shoulder points "I like TW 14 and SI 11 in particular. That is on the shoulder joint, or is it TW 15 and SI 12? I'm sorry, I forgot the TCM points. But I like these those two points..." Confusing, and I find it frustrating at times. The first half of the book feels like a webinar lecture, and the last half consists of transcribed questions and answers from his experience with elotus webinars. Some of the diagrams are lifted from Deadman's Manual of Acupuncture (which he cites), and some lifted from H. McCann's Practical Atlas (which he doesn't). I would suggest that before you buy this book, you at least have a working knowledge of Tan style acupuncture so that you are able to make sense of the jargon and the approach.

AWESOME!
Brad Whisnant is a ROCKSTAR! Thanks for putting out such an invaluable resource to mastering Tung's acupuncture! We all know how amazing Tan and Tung acupuncture is….when used accurately, of course! I appreciated the brief and concise overview of the mirroring and imaging techniques; makes so much of what I've been doing make that much more sense! There are even pictures that are super helpful! It's very easy to read! I like the setup of the book; he provides a lot of cases and commentary…it's almost like having Brad right there with you, walking you through your thought processes and point selection. He even throws in pictures with point locations for some key Tung acupuncture points.Though what I do LOVE about the book is that out of the many many points that we can use, Brad helps narrow down the best, most effective ones, utilizing his own clinical experience in treating hundreds of thousands of patients. You can't fake experience, and it's so nice to have an expert provide us with tips and tools that has made him so successful, so effective, and so great as a practitioner! Thanks Brad! Your book will be very useful for years to come!!!
