Sad to Finish Series
This is the second book in this series about Anne Lister, lesbian from the early 1800s who wrote her scandalous diary entries in secret code. She was a relatively wealthy land owning woman who traveled and was quite interesting. The HBO series Gentleman Jack is based on these diaries. I'm really sad that I've finished and I'll be on the lookout for more books about her life.

What book/diary does she write about her and ann walker?
I am new to Gentleman Jack! I absolutely love the show and would like to know what to read in order and if there is a more detailed description of the relationship and marriage with Ann Walker.

Funny, insightful, and fascinating
Helena Whitbred has been working on Anne Lister’s journals for over 30 years. With the BBC/HBO series Gentleman Jack, more people are learning about Lister & her life. Too often women vanish into the mists of the past, our contributions ignored or erased. The work of writers, like Whitbred, go a long way to preserving that history and make it available to people. This book is funny, touching, incisive, and fascinating. We meet Anne Lister through her own words. It’s like eavesdropping on a private conversation. It’s wonderful.

Love Ann Lister. Read Volume 1 first
Ann Lister was an important person in history. She was very honest about who she is and although confused as to why she was made different, she wasn’t embarrassed by it. In the early and mid 1800’s being a lesbian socialite had to be hard.

Immersion Into A Past Life
This is life as writ—passionate, petty, part of larger historical movements. The most drawing aspect of it is Anne Lister and how she navigates her life and sexuality in a world set against it. She is no saint, and bully for that. She’s real, engaging, and irritating all at once. Let her be her, and the reader will be immersed into a past life.

Wishing there was more..
R/Sappho and her friend: the book, but it's set in the 1820's. In all seriousness, if you love diarists or letter writing literature, or you're a fan of Anne Lister, or both, it's a great follow up to "I Know my own Heart" - just wish there was more of Whitbread's extracts published as regards Anne's later life with Ann Walker.

Anne Lister war eine faszinierende Person. Dieses ist Teil 2 ihrer Tagebücher und liefert einen großartigen Zeitbezug und einen weitere , tiefen Einblick in die Psyche einer starken und unabhängigen Persönlichkeit!

A must for who wants to know better Anne Lister
A must for who wants to know better Anne Lister. We owe to Helena Whitbread the modern discovery of this incredible woman. This book is focused on excerpts from her diaries of the time she spent in Paris.
