I had a problem because the drain on my central air system was not properly installed. Because of this I got a small flood which led to the growth of mold and mildew in the HVAC. When the system would turn on I would get this damp smell. My PC is near a vent and I would immediately start coughing when the AC went on. The problem would improve somewhat in the winter when hot air was running through, but never really went away and came back again. I did a lot of research on UV lights. The Oil Company wanted a $1000 to install two units. I have a large house about 4200 square ft. and an air handler for each floor. The Units are rated for 3600sq ft each. So I knew that the two would be overkill. But overkill in this case is a good thing. I knew I could install them myself. My only problem was running wire and adding an outlet to plug in the Swordfish. The product arrived ahead of time and was easy to install with just a rudimentary ability to use a drill. Now for how it worked. Within a day I noticed a reduction in the odor. Within a few days the odor was entirely gone. I don't cough when the AC goes on. It may be psychological but the air in the house feels lighter and cleaner overall. Small piece of advice. Drill a small pilot hole for the hole saw or it may bounce and pilot holes for the mounting screws. I also think that you should wear vinyl or nitrate gloves when handling the bulbs. If you have a central air system I would recommend that you install one even if you do not know if you have a problem.

Awesome product. I had a company come install a air purifier light in my attic, and the light went out, and I couldent find a replacement bulb. Thats when I bought this one and installed on my own, simple installation, just dont look at the light. The light works by destroying DNA, and when you look into the light, well.. just dont do it. There have been other that had to make a Hospital visit because of flash burns to their eyes. Be safe

I first purchased this item in 2018 and have replaced the bulb 3 times. The latest bulb lasted a couple of weeks before the bulb blew yet again. The picture shows that one of the plug holes on the head of the unit looks like it has blown out. As soon as I plugged in with new bulb, the bulb blew. I have ordered a whole new unit at almost twice the cost of the original one. Lets hope this one lasts!

Easy installation if you are really handy and works great. Be careful making hole....measure position many times before cut. Sometimes as my case need to make hole thru 2 cases in order to acces "A" shaped air handler coils.

I finally got in touch with Allanson and they sent me a new power (lampholder) head free of charge under their lifetime warranty. New rating would have been a 5 IF their 1800 number had worked when I began trying reach them with my warranty claim. Following are suggestions for more hassle-free installation: 1. When drilling the hole in your AC duct allow at least 2” of unobstructed clearance at the 3 o’clock position of the power head. This allows room to plug-in the power cord. 2.You will need to use a desk top computer or printer power cord to fit the power connection on the power head. 3.When installing the UV lamp into the power head, push just hard enough to feel positive click(s) from both mounting tabs. Otherwise, you may get a flashing red “replace lamp” indication when you apply power. MY PREVIOUS REVIEWS, now OBE: This is downgrade from my previous rating because Swordfish does not appear to honor the lifetime warranty touted on their web site. While I was not surprised or disappointed when the UV tube failed after 15 months, I was surprised that the lampholder unit apparently simultaneously failed. So I tried to contact Swordfish to get a replacement lampholder. I have left at least two voicemails in the last two weeks. I have also contacted them via the web site and got (and replied to) a reply from their AI. Crickets since then. So it is obvious they have not intention of honoring their warranty. If you decide to buy this product, highly recommend you buy the warranty insurance offered by Amazon when checkout.

This unit fit in my discharge air Platinum

I used this unit for about ten months. The lamp went out, so I ordered a replacement lamp. The unit still would not turn on after replacing the lamp. There is no power to the unit. I tested it in several different outlets to be sure that it wasn't the outlet. For the price I would expect the unit to last much longer than 10 months. If you do purchase it, I would suggest buying a warranty. I couldn't find one from the manufacturer. I can not state whether there was any noticeable difference in the air during the ten working months of this product.UPDATE: I located the company's website and contacted them by phone (Toll-Free 1-800-668-9162. Don't bother contacting them by Email, they never answered me back). They told me that this product has a ten year warranty. They stated to ship it back (at my expense) and they would repair or replace it. It took about one week to return and they replaced the unit (not the bulb). I recently re installed it, but I am still unsure whether it is making any difference. I still question why it stopped working in the first place.
