A view from the proletariat
I wasn't able to go to college, but I do love to read So I've been on my own as I've tried to grasp Baudelaire's works over the years. While I could certainly appreciate his genius and found his writing fascinating, this is the first translation that has ever given me any real connection to him as a human being/writer. This translation has finally gotten me past the punk stereotype, weirdness, etc. etc. of Baudelaire and added more insight into the beauty contained in his writings of love and life. It added context, complexity and humanity.

Great translation.
OK, I'm assuming it's a great translation, since I don't know French beyond "croissant." But I've read Baudelaire's poetry and prose poems before, in a different translation, and am enjoying this one equally as well. It's always good to go back to the classics, and these poems are good examples of why certain works deserve to be called classics.

Pristine copy -- bad translation -- lacks the mordant poetry of the original. Returned to store, would not recommend.
