Møv & Funder is a 1991 Danish drama film. Han hedder egentlig Martin, men alle kalder ham Møv. Hidtil er de største eventyr, han har oplevet, blevet sendt kl. 16 om søndagen. Men det bliver der rettet op på nu. Nede i hans kælder ligger Funder.

Mov & Funder, a little gem
A brilliant little film and well acted ,the young lad is brilliant, I would have cast a different older lad but hey that's just me.The story is a bit flimsy but its a good watch, I have only seen the original version with no sub-titlesAs a result I don't quite get the full joist of their conversations but I managed.. hopefully someone will get me a copy soonIt's well filmed and keeps you engaged, I have put it on my second shelf.

a boy finds a role beyond his wildest dreams, and an interesting emotional ambiguity
Some spoilers to help understanding of the plot - the film is in Danish with no subtitlesMov og Funder is sadly released in this Danish-only version, although it deserves a region-free release with subtitles. The story is exactly what it seems from the images: Mov (or Martin), aged 12, is somewat neglected by his father, with whom he is supposed to be going to stay. Because his father is late picking him up in the car, he goes to a phone box and finds out that his father is off to see a girlfriend in Stockholm instead. At the same moment a young man - Funder, who we discover is 22 - finds his face pressed up against the glass in a violent fight that erupted in a bar across the street. He ends up hiding from the police in the basement of the block where Mov lives, the boy happens to find him, and sets about looking after him, bringing food, drink, valium, antiseptic. At this point certain parallels with E.T. are quite striking, except that Funder has a much leaner face ... However he has a serious stab wound. He urgently needs to get to a doctor, but on his way there Mov (riding him in a bike with a trailer, again not unlike the Spielberg) is waylaid by a girl who lives in the same building, Rikke. She shows him a hideout of her own where a sofa has been dumped by her parents, and she kisses Mov, who promptly falls asleep ... When he comes to he is hit by Funder for abandoning him. The doctor is not in and Funder's flatmate kicks him out. Mov sneaks him into his mother's flat; he sleeps in his bed, the wound still untreated, and the next morning they shower together and Funder shows him how to shave, when the mother bursts in to find them standing there naked. She is going to call a doctor, taking it all in her stride, but Rikke calls and sees Funder through a door, knows that he is a wanted man, and betrays him. The last part requires no commentary to be followed ...It is quite a bracing film in its equating of reality with danger and excitement, and certainly sails close to the wind; early on Funder shows Mov his penknife, and there is a sense of him being a loose cannon, not necessarily someone who is good for Mov, although in an important sense he is. It turns out that he has been in penal institutions before, as a policeman tells Mov and his friends ... It is very well cast, so that the innocence of the boy and the wildness of the youth work very well together. The closeness in itself may seem uneasy to some, but actually this boy has a wonderful adventure and opening into every boy's dream. The two leads carry the film very well and the last section is tense, borrowing from Jean Vigo's Zéro de Conduite in its rooftop action. It also recalls the dynamic between two similar characters in André Téchiné's Les Egarés (Strayed). The way various ambiguities are explored, combined with expressive use of lighting on their well contrasted faces, make it an underrated gem from a country that has excelled at coming-of-age films.

Sweet, touching, heart rending television play that is in the best traditions of European cinema.
In spite of other commentators claiming that this is perverted or prurient, nothing is further from the truth. Rather, this is a sweet, touching, heart rending television play about a little boy searching for a parent, because the ones he has are useless, and reaching out to an injured, personally flawed young man, who needs the boy's help more than he cares to comprehend. Beautifully acted and mounted.
