Bought two of these for cold storage of data to store in whatever random places I can think of. They are perfectly wonderful. Simple, easy, fine. They are USB 2.0, but that doesn't matter because if you are using 3.5" spinning disks then your max write is probably 25% of the USB 2.0 standard anyway -- you'll max around 90-100mbps. These are great.Usually with external enclosures you worry about jostling. Don't worry -- if you secure these correctly they don't move at all! Assembly is easy: remove the two screws from the front face, then pull out the back face with the drawer. Remove the back panel, insert the drive, replace the back panel. Use the 4 included screws to secure the drive -- two OVER the plastic back panel, two on the inner-most holes. Re-insert the drawer, screw everything back up.For the price, you simply cannot and will not beat this. Buy a few.

I raided this adequate because that's what it was. it does the job and looks okay and that's all I paid for or needed. It's not the most beautiful, sexy, perfect, and on and on. But it's cheap and does the job and that's how I picked it out and that's exactly how it is. I would have given it five stars if I thought somebody would believe that a five-star rating was given to something that was just adequate. But that's all I wanted.

I got this for my youngest son, so that he can put his old Windows Vista hard drive into it and get his old stuff out or boot Windows Vista from there. However, when he started Windows 8, the now-external hard drive would not show at all. The old hard drive was made by Hitachi, so an update for it to show on Windows 8 is needed. My youngest son doesn't know where to find an update for that drive, nor does he know how to boot Windows Vista from that hard drive, so he needs help.

Worked GREAT for what I needed it for. I had a Western Digital "My Book" external hard drive that crapped out on me after just over a year. I bought this enclosure hoping that I could at least hook up the hard drive in it and save all my data. It was actually just supposed to be temporary. But once I mounted the HDD inside it, it worked out great and looks great. So now I have a new enclosure for my external hard drive and using it again like normal. Two thumbs up for this enclosure!!!

My xp machine finally died. Fortunately it wasn't the hard drive. This enclosure kit is just the thing I needed to recover the data I hadn't backed up. It also helped in finding all of the software I had downloaded over the years. I cleaned up the old hard drive and now we use it as additional storage (copies) for family pictures and videos, etc., makes it easy for anyone in the family to access the photos etc. without needing the one computer.

This is my second time purchasing this enclosure and it works fine and made out of great materials, not the best looking ever but it slim.

Garbage. Unit is not recognized in windows. Drive has power and can be heard spinning in enclosure. Known good drive also. Not worth the expense to return. Junk.
