Sd.Kfz. 171 Panzer V "Panther": Ausf. A/D/G: 7043 (Top Drawings)

The latest book from Polish based Kagero Publishing in their “Top Drawings” series covers the iconic World War II Panther tank. This is the 43rd book in the series and follows the same format as previous books in the series that cover the Panzer II (7032), Panzer IV (7008) and Panzer IVH/J(7025). These slim volumes feature scale drawings of the subject in all the popular modelling scales. The first thing that you notice are three 1/16 scale drawings that are printed on enormous sheets of paper that are poster size. (Approximately 490 mm x 684mm) Each of the Panther marks; the Ausf D, A and G is depicted; front, back, both sides and plan view. Inside the book the same drawings are produced scaled down in 1/35th, 1/48th and 1/72nd scales.The drawings appear to be accurate capturing the differences between each of the marks (Although the Ausf A drawings show two exhausts which was seen on some Ausf As but not as common as the triple exhausts and the drawing misses out the jack that sat between the exhausts) Model makers will find them useful to ensure that their models are accurate. As well as the scale drawings there is a page that shows each mark in three dimensions and these are particularly well done. Perhaps the best feature of the book though, are the four pages of colour drawings depicting a variety of vehicles in typical schemes.In summary this is a book that many model makers will find useful for both the drawings and the colour plates. The 1/16th scale drawings are particularly impressive and will no doubt grace the walls of many modellers “dens”!
