BUY THE WARRANTY!!!
Not happy with the collars. We had a PetSafe fence/collar for several years that had to be replaced. The first product was one piece, easy to clean and didn't fall apart. The first collar also had a significantly louder tone for the dogs to hear. After only 8 months of use, one of the contact points on our boy's receiver collar came loose and fell out on the rug. We put it back in and tightened it. Two days later he comes inside and the only thing left is the collar. Both contact points came out and the receiver is in the yard somewhere. It's a balmy 6 degrees and trapesing around the 3 acres out back is not fun at all. We'll keep looking and hopefully, we find the receiver or we will have to purchase another one for $120.00. This is smart on the part of PetSafe because the alternative is to purchase another brand fence which would run $300 or more. For sure thinking of ideas to keep the receiver attached to the collar since it isn't something that was considered by the manufacturer. Or maybe it was and that's how they sell more collars. SMHUPDATE 5/2/18Still NOT HAPPY with the collar. It's been in use for under a year and the contact prong has broken. The portion that screws into the receive is severed from the portion that makes contact with the dog. So I can't even replace it with a new prong, part of it is still in the receiver.

Dont waste your money!
So I purchased the entire system and an additional collar. Worked great for first couple weeks. I thought my dogs had outsmarted the sytem. Not the case, the system is dysfunctional at best. After multiple emails with petsafe, doing everything they said to troubleshoot it, and my own test of running new line and moving the equipment, I'm left with "call customer service and trouble shoot some more".Both collars worked fine at first, one became .ore sensitive than the other and now today, neither collar works. I'm not even getting shocked. Spend big bucks on a system I can't use. Would not suggest wasting your money.

It works, but will not last
The good: This works just like it should for the price, and the collar holds a charge for about a week, which is acceptable. I should note did buy much heavier duty all weather 18 AWG wire, as the wire it comes with is super cheap and thin and could easily break just from ground shift. I've had zero problems with my 18 AWG wire breaking, and buried it myself. Here's the bad: Over 2 years I have had to replace the main transmitter unit, and two of the PetSafe collars which had one of the conductive tips break off. So in the end, you'll save money up front vs. going with a DogWatch or InvisibleFence system, but I guarantee you will end up paying the same amount or more in the end. In general, PetSafe equipment in my opinion is cheap bottom of the market trash.

Replaces heavy SportDog collar for less
I got this primarily to replace my dog's heavy SportDog electric fence collar, which I thought was too heavy for my cockapoo mix. This is so much better and lighter, plus it has a blinking light that not only lets you know when to recharge it, which isn't that often, but also makes it easier to find it in the dark! The online support and chat help that I got from SportDog, which owns PetSafe, was spectacular. Thanks to that associate, I learned that this model, along with many others, works with my electric fence and is a lot cheaper than the SportDog model (which wasn't even in stock).

Freedom for my cats, peace of mind for me...and my neighbors!
Although the shipping took longer than I would have liked, I finally received this and MAN, how did I ever live without this? I can't even imagine not having it now. Firstly, it is simple to put up, the instructions are so well written and clear, I think a 10 year old could do it. If you have an existing fence, you do not have to put this in the ground. I read on some reviews that this is a huge chore buying, and if you have a huge yard, I guess it is, but I just attached it to my fence, used my lawn edger to help dig a rut where there was no fence, and boom, it's up. After MUCH research for a couple of months, I decided on this because it isn't wireless. The big huge wireless box is not only ginormous and ugly, but it doesn't have good reviews overall, and is prone to failure for many reasons, including that the signal fluctuates and makes the boundary you set move up to 2' either way at any given time. First, you lay it out around the area you want to fence, making sure it's just as you want it. They include helpful tips and advice too to help you in deciding how to lay your fence. At first, I was just going to lay it around the perimeter of my yard, but they show all kinds of ways to protect your pool area, garden spot, and cover difficult areas. They also explain how to train your animal precisely, which I was kind of worried about, but if you just follow their instructions on what and how to train on what days, it's simple. Days 1-5 for example, you just walk your pet around with the unit off and give him treats when he avoids the flagged areas. You do this for 30 minutes a day or something. Then day 6-10, for example, you'd see if he avoids the area by himself, and if he does you praise him a lot and reinforce the training. It accelerates up to about 2-3 weeks with progressive training. Even an idiot could do it. There is some adjustment work just making sure it works the way you intended, giving you the opportunity to reset the wires or whatever. And of course, you have to fit the collar to your specific pet, since all pets are different sizes, fur thicknesses etc. But they tell you all about that, too. I just think this is a well designed product that works great. It seems like they have thought of everything, and they give you pet training tips and tell you what to do to leave your area with your pet (because you don't want them to be afraid to cross the line when they have to go to the vet, for instance). They explain what to do if your animal gets out of the protection area. You can buy additional wire, flags, a second or third collar, and anything else you need. They also include some waterproof gel to use in case you have to splice in additional wire. The gel is a capsule shaped container of gel that you put the spliced wire into, close it to seal, and then use, because you need your wiring to be waterproof. This particular unit is rechargeable, but I decided it was worth the investment so I don't have to buy the exclusive petsafe batteries that everyone thinks are so high. They don't seem that high to me, but maybe the non-rechargeable units use a lot of batteries. Anyway, this is a complete set with every little thing you could ever think of, even things that aren't pictured. It even has a surge protector included, so all in all a great price for such a great product. Now my cats cat climb over the fence to the cat hating dogs and people on the other side. They can't get into the street on the front of the house and get hit by a car. But they can have freedom to play outside, catch bugs, lay under the shade tree, roll around on the patio, bask in the sun, chase squirrels, and just be cats. I'm so thrilled I got this!!!! And so are my babies!!

Our pup decided chasing cars was fun, boundary training was working if we were close ...
What you should know is that if a dog a running as fast as they can they will cross the wire before receiving a correction (shock). The 2 second warning for the dog is necessary but in the right situation they can make it through the zone without receiving a correction. We installed this system because we have a highway along our property with traffic moving at 80 kph. Our pup decided chasing cars was fun, boundary training was working if we were close but if she was outside alone she would go to the highway. So we installed this along the highway side of the property only, 1500ft with the loop running 5ft apart so 3000ft of wire. This also prevents the running past with no correct by doubling the size of the correction area. I am 100% sure this system has saved my dog from being hit by a car. Money well spent for peace of mind and a very happy dog to be able to chase the squirrels unsupervised again

Very satisfied
I purchased this system for our cats (also purchased an additional collar) it was very easy to install with clear instructions although take your time and go through each step carefully. I know most people have heard of this product for dogs.. but moving to an urban area with two cats who were used to roaming we had to do something so they could enjoy the outdoors and stay safe. It took a total of an afternoon on a low setting for them to learn that the beep sound was not good and to move away. Two cats.. one 2 yrs old and one 10 years old both learned quite quickly and this was much cheaper then building additional fence etc.

Works great.
I installed this system as a 650' boundary fence. It was an easy install with good instructions. Easy in the sense that I had no trouble doing it, but burying 650' of wire took time. I used a lawn edger to dig the 1" to 3" deep trench. I did it when the weather was warm, but it's now in frozen ground under a foot of snow and still works perfectly. Our dog is a very energetic 12 lb. Terrier and this fence keeps her on the property. The rechargeable collar is a nice feature and the first charge lasted over 3 months. Highly recommended.

It WORKS!
This WORKS!I was skeptical, as my large breed dog (great pyrenees mix) has broken out of every crate, horse stall, a screened-in open window twice, AND through a basement glass window. Let alone the Humane Society kennels where I rescued him from. He also had a bad habit of chasing cars, cyclists, cats and squirrels, basically anything that went by my house/through my yard if the mood struck him. I chose this in-ground fence as it has a rechargeable e-collar, so I didn't have to continue to purchase batteries. In just a week he was aware of his boundaries and now stays home, well away from the road, and I'm able to leave him outside when I am away so he doesn't feel confined. So happy with this purchase and I'd recommend it to anyone with a dog. I'm happy, and so is my dog!
